Deloris Jane Caruthers Sievers passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014. She was born November 5, 1931, in Yorktown, Texas, to the late Orin Lee and Antoinette Othelia Natho Caruthers. She attended Yorktown High School and graduated in 1949. She married Weldon Sievers on November 6, 1949, at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown. She was baptized on May 23, 1958, and confirmed on May 25, 1958, at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
While her children grew up, Deloris sewed clothing for people, then started doing upholstery work and refinishing furniture. She volunteered as a Brownie and Cub Scout leader for her children’s packs. She always crocheted; crocheting was the “love of her life.” After her children left home, she started baking and quilting, entering dozens of contests and winning many awards, ribbons and trophies for her food and crafts. Quilting became a passion of hers quickly and she made quilt tops for any and all local fundraisers.
She helped others with quilting and was involved in the Heirloom Quilt Guild in Yorktown. Deloris loved the outdoors and her horse. She belonged to the Yorktown Trail Riders, riding in the Six Flags Trail Ride every year.
Among her many awards, she was the first ever recipient in 1984, of the Yorktown Citizen of the Year, and in 2000, the Masonic Lodge awarded her a Community Builder’s Award for her years of volunteering and helping those in need.
Deloris was very involved with her church, and truly lived her life as a Christian. If there was ever a person in need, she was there to help, whether it was a donated quilt or care packages, whether she had the money or not. She wasn’t concerned with material things; she was more interested in helping others around her in need. Not only did she quilt, she designed some beautiful, one of a kind quilts. Look around and see some of her beautiful work and one-of-a-kind treasures she lovingly made for her friends and family.
Deloris is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Weldon; brother, Delbert Goehring; nephew, Bobby Sievers.
She is survived by her children, Jeanette Ann Laza, Donald Sievers and wife Vera, Wayne Sievers, and Dale Laza; grandchildren, Amber Watkins and husband Wade, Katie Laza and fiancée Patrick Manzi, Donald Sievers, Jr. and wife Katie, and Matthew Sievers; great-grandchildren, Lauren Watkins, Katelyn Sievers, and future great-grandson, Jimmy Ray Sievers; siblings, Maline Sievers and E.V.
