Anton Mainka, 76, of Yorktown was embraced in the open arms of the Lord, August 1, 2014. He was born May 17, 1938 at home in Dobskyville, TX to the late Theodore and Rosie Mainka. He married Janis McFarlane Sept. 19, 1964 in Riviera, TX.
Anton attended school in Dobskyville and Weesatche. He worked in the oilfield, as a motorman and driller, traveling from town to town with the rig around the valley and then around Yorktown, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed his retirement with all his daughters and their families and too many friends to count.
He is survived by his most loving wife of 49 years, Janis Mainka , daughters Darlene (Danny) Cabela, Tammy (Harlen) Merks and Christie (Kimby) Seifert, 7 grandchildren Daniel, Dana and R.J. Cabela, Mitchell (Erin) Merks , Kalli Merks, Bryce and Britt Seifert and two great grandchildren Evelyn and Brayden Merks. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Friedrichs of Meyersville, brothers Alex Mainka of Cuero and Paul Mainka of Andrews, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Agnes Kulik, Helen Adickes, brothers Julian, Joe, Frank, Bennie and Edward Mainka.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 5, 2014 at Massey Funeral Home with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday Aug 6, 2014 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Harlen Merks, Danny Cabela, Kimby Seifert, Mitchell Merks, Bryce Seifert, Daniel Cabela, and R.J. Cabela.
Honorary Pallbearers: Kalli Merks, Britt Seifert, Dana Cabela, Frankie & Gloris Seifert, Walter & Dorine Leister, Ray & Earlen Jalufka, Kenneth & Clydelle Tam, Bob & Bea Fagg, Clifford & Betty Jo Haun.
