Frank H. Sturm, 31, of Pasadena, Texas, passed away on Oct. 14, 2014. He was born Oct. 8, 1983, in Pasadena, to Alvin and Rachel Syma Sturm.
Frank grew up in Pasadena, Tx, where he graduated from Sam Rayburn H. S. and developed his love for math, the sport of tennis, and riding motorcycles. He attended San Jacinto Community College where his passion for mathematics grew and then he received his B.S. in Math from the University of Houston. He attended Auburn University, AL, for graduate studies and received his Masters in 2011 and his PHD in Mathematics in the spring of 2014 under the joint advice of professors Piotr Minc and Michel Smith in the area of Topology. Frank made many contributions to the department of mathematics and statistics and to Auburn University. He had two very good scientific papers published and he and his advisor recently submitted other articles to Houston Journal of Mathematics.
Frank was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Herman J. Sturm and Frank Syma, Jr.
He is survived by his parents; sister, Mariel Sturm; brother, Joseph Sturm; grandmothers, Eleanora Sturm and Mary L. Syma.
Visitation is 5-8 pm with a rosary at 7 pm, Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at Finch Funeral Chapel — Yorktown. Funeral mass is 10:00 am, Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Yorktown with Rev. David Berger officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
