
Shirley Ann Berner, 82, passed away in the early morning hours of April 11, 2015 in Dierks, Arkansas, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Winfield, Kansas, on September 20, 1932 to Pansy Marie and James Lester Thirsk. She married Homer Harold Berner on August 4, 1950 in Augusta, Kansas in the home her father built. This union was blessed with the birth of two beautiful daughters. Married life took her on a journey from Kansas to Oklahoma City, then Victoria, Texas before finally settling in Cuero, Texas. While in Cuero, Shirley worked for many years at Farmers State Bank and Trust. She is remembered for her warm smile and friendly, efficient customer service.
After retirement, Homer and Shirley moved back to Augusta, Kansas to care for their mothers. Following Homer’s death in 2002, Shirley moved to DeQueen, Arkansas. They were married for 52 years.
She is survived by her daughters: Kay Trotta (Paul) of DeQueen, Arkansas, and Gail Harcrow (Everett) of Seguin, Texas; brother: Larry D. Thirsk (Jackie) of Security, Colorado; grandchildren: Dr. Jennifer Gonzales (Arthur) of Cuero, Texas, Jeffrey Sigsbee (Mandy) of Crafton, Texas, Paul Sigsbee (Jill) of McKinney, Texas, Steven Trotta of DeQueen, Arkansas, Michael Trotta of Pennsylvania, Daniel Trotta (Jackie) of Alexander, Arkansas, Monica Knox (Kirk) of Sasebo, Japan, Sean Harcrow (Kara) of New Braunfels, Texas, Gwen Tillery (Roy) of Elkins, Arkansas, Gabe Harcrow (Lisa) of Tampa, Florida, and Ben Harcrow (Anne-Marie) of Stuttgart, Germany, as well as 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
A memorial service is planned for 11 o’clock a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Chandler Funeral Home in DeQueen.
