Louis Edward Hans

Louis Edward Hans, 78, of Meadows Place, Texas, passed away on Nov. 28, 2013. Lou was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, educator, Christian, and friend. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Lou was born on Dec. 7, 1934 in Cuero to Werner and Edith Hans. He graduated from Southwest Texas Teachers College in 1957, and married Virginia Newman, the love of his life, in 1958. Lou and Virginia moved to Sugar Land in 1959 where he became a history teacher, starting his 36 year career with the Fort Bend Independent School District serving as teacher, coach, mentor, and counselor. A devout Catholic, he served as Parish Council President for St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and a Fourth Degree Color Corps Member of the Knights of Columbus. 
 
Lou was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Michael. He is survived by his loving wife Virginia Hans and their children Cathy Newman of Houston; Patsy Ponder and her husband Dr. Steve Ponder of Belton, Texas; and Chuck Hans and his wife Leigh Ann Hans of Tampa, Fla. He is also survived by their five grandchildren: Charlotte Ponder, Rachel Hopkins, Jack Ponder, Elizabeth Hans, and Ashleigh Hans. 
 
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, followed by a 2 p.m. funeral mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on 12627 West Bellfort Ave. in Sugar Land.
 
Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, on the corner of 59 North and FM 2218 in Rosenberg.
 
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church to support the Knights of Columbus Education Fund.
