Conrow Carl Moritz, 69, passed away on Sept. 25, 2016. A very aggressive cancer took him away quickly and way too soon.
Conrow was born Sept. 15, 1947 in Cuero to Erwin and Leona Moritz. Growing up on a farm in Meyersville and being a son, he learned early what it meant to work. Conrow married the love of his life, Jackie Asbury, on April 27, 1966. He moved to Cuero as a young adult and lived there the remainder of his life.
Conrow loved the outdoors. He spent his retirement taking care of cattle in a couple of locations. He had a herd of sheep so he had some beautiful white Great Pyrenees dogs he was proud of to herd and protect them. He was also known in the local area as the “chicken man” for his tasty chickens and eggs. His flock included a variety of colorful chickens, turkeys, and guinea fowl from which he also incubated their eggs. He never stopped working even when he could have or even when he was in pain.
Conrow never met a stranger wherever he went. He would talk to anyone and sometimes for hours. He could always find something humorous to make you smile or laugh. He was not someone you could or ever want to forget. The combination of his blue eyes and long white beard was a memorable one.
Conrow was dedicated to his wife and family. Through the years he also provided a home and guidance for many others in need. His caretaking was boundless and will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
Conrow is survived by his wife, Jackie, his son, Conrow Moritz Jr. (Kim) of Anderson, his daughter Cindy Lange (Patrick) of Cuero, grandchildren: Conrow Moritz III, Kelsi Moritz, Caden Lange, Camdyn Lange, great-grandchildren, Conrow Moritz IV, Sawyer Moritz; siblings, Myrna Smith of Santa Barbara, CA, Wiley Moritz of Meyersville, Fay Hood of Rosenberg. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Geraldine Pullin and Betty Sue Moritz.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers include Conrow Moritz III, James Asbury, Michael Ray, Monty Key, Caden Lange, and Brandon Coleman. Honorary pallbearers include Casey Smith and Chad Smith.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
