Alvin Leon Campbell was born March 12, 1953 in Yoakum, Texas in Lavaca County to Leroy and Helen Caldwell Campbell. He grew up in Cheapside Community outside of Cuero.
Alvin acknowledged and professed his belief in God at the New Hope Baptist Church Lockhart Community. Alvin graduated from Cuero High School in May of 1971 with honors, thus receiving a scholarship from Prairie View A&M University, where he excelled and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Education with History, Magna Cum Laude in three years. He taught World History and was the head of his department in the Bellaire ISD in Houston. He was a true historian and enjoyed traveling to over 15 different countries as well as all across the United States.
Alvin was called home on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Helen Campbell; brothers Leroy Campbell, Jr., Joseph F. Campbell and Lawrence H. Campbell; and niece Cynthia A. Adams.
Left to honor his life and cherish his memory are his sisters, Wanda N. Zuniga (Mark), Helen D. Whittington (Anthony), and Inez Winfield all of Cuero; sister-n-laws, Patricia Campbell of Ore City and Linda Campbell of Hallettsville; uncle, Carmen Caldwell (Rosa) of San Antonio; aunt, Pearl Caldwell of Hardin; best friend and companion Mike Belk of Houston; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. at the LE Meador Encampment Grounds with Reverend L.J. Clayton, Jr. officiating and Reverend Larry Caldwell, eulogist. Interment to follow in Lockhart Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the AIDS Foundation or to the Montrose Clinic in Houston.
