Lena Emma Leist, 82, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017. She was born June 19, 1934 in Hochheim to the late Louis and Frieda Boening Blank. Lena married the love of her life, Wilfred Frank Leist on May 8, 1955 in Yoakum. She cared for children in her home, was a clerk at Bottom Dollar for years, and was a lunch lady at Cuero Junior High and High School. Lena was a charter member and past president of the Cuero VFW Auxiliary, was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and the Cuero Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and was a lifetime member of Herman Sons. She enjoyed baking, playing bingo, spending time with her family, and going to Coushatta.
She is survived by sons, Allen Ray Leist and Lorette, of Yorktown and Darryl Gene Leist and wife, Donna, of Bay City; sisters, Martha Welker of Warren, Arkansas and Mable Glaze and husband, John, of Cuero; brother, August Blank and wife, Rosalie, of Victoria; grandchildren, Lyndsie Hurley and husband, Matt, of Wharton, Trandon Leist and wife, Nicole, of Meyersville, Lanie Milliff and husband, Jason, of Bay City, Todd Leist and wife, Kaci, of Canyon Lake, and Libbie Cruz and husband, Daniel, of Bay City; great-grandchildren, Emma Beth, Eli Joseph, and Ella Margaret Hurley, Hayden Gunner, Kyler Cash, and Kinley Rose Leist, Callie Mae Leist, Maddison Sue Leist (due in May), and Luke James and David Wallace Milliff.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband; sisters, Annie Lou Leist and Edna Mae Prause; brothers, Gerhardt Blank and George Blank; and three angel great-grandbabies.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be Friday, April 28, at 10 a.m., at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Sharon Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Cuero Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, or the Cuero VFW Auxiliary.
Pallbearers include Trandon Leist, Todd Leist, Matt Hurley, Jason Milliff, Daniel Cruz, James Leist, and Glenn Leist.
