Cleo Wendel

Cleo Paul Wendel, 85, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017. He was born June 20, 1931 in Meyersville to the late Paul and Elfie Diebel Wendel. Cleo married the love of his life, Josephine Vrazel, on September 16, 1950 in Meyersville. Daddy went to be with Jesus and he can see now! He loved God, his family and friends, history and our country. He treasured a good conversation on any subject with anyone. He was an avid reader, reading hundreds of books especially the Bible narrated by Alexander Scorbey. The “Cuero Mens Prayer Meeting” has always held a special place in his heart. Cleo created four large books filled with his and Mama’s memories. His faithful secretary Lena Leist assisted him every step of the way. Cleo was a small rancher and a carpenter. 

Daddy we love you and will miss you but we are so very happy for you!

 He is survived by his daughter, Donna Ruth Wendel Potts of Victoria; son, Gregory Lynn Wendel of Richmond; grandchildren, Trey Potts (Terri) of Victoria, Greg Potts (Wendi) of Grand Prairie, Chris Potts (Meredith) of Victoria, Gunnar Wendel of Sealy, and Rebekah Wendel of Sealy; and seven great-grandchildren, Bianca, Cody, Haylie, Kati, Kylie, Zoe, and Sydney. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife; sisters, Ruby Lee Wendel and Ruth Nagel; and brothers, Allan Wendel and Alonzo Wendel.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be Sunday, April 30, at 2 p.m., at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Meyersville with the Rev. John Boor officiating. Interment will follow at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.

Pallbearers include DeWitt Potts, Trey Potts, Greg Potts, Chris Potts, Leon Dohman, Terry Brown, Brian Bruns, and Allan Carroll. Honorary pallbearers include Cody Potts, Gunnar Wendel, and Gregory Wendel.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or the charity of donor’s choice.
