Johnny Hahn

Johnny Lee Hahn, 68, of Cuero, passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2016. He was born Jan. 17, 1948 in George West to the late Jacob and Barbara Hahn.

Johnny is survived by wife, Patricia Johnson; daughter, Amy Hahn and son, Fennis Green; sister, Lorene Williams and brother, Jerry Lee Hahn.

Services will be held Monday, Feb. 29 at 10 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Reverend Dennis King officiating.

Paul Gebauer

Paul Joseph Gebauer, 84, of Cuero passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Feb. 26, 2016. He was born Nov, 27, 1931 in Placedo to Frank and Albina Gebauer. He married the love of his life, Jessie Belle Wiseman, on Dec. 12, 1953 in Vernon. They were married for 62 glorious years.  Paul served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus and St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and cooking for them. He loved to cook and was known for his Chili and Kolaches. He enjoyed visiting with his nieces and nephews. He worked for Weber Motor Company for over 30 years and continued to enjoy visiting there after retirement.

He is survived by his daughters, Paula (Virgil) Brown of Cuero and Sharon (Ira) Epstein of Round Rock; grandchildren, Haley (Christopher) Urbanovsky of Cuero, Michael Epstein of Austin, and Melissa O’Brien of Gainesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jessie Belle; grandson, Bradley Brown; sisters, Evelyn Gebauer, Jessie Kraatz and Willie Mae Sinclair; brothers, Kasper Gebauer, Leo Gebauer, John Gebauer and Fred Gebauer.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 1 at Freund Funeral Home at 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday, March 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father David Berger officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Haley Urbanovsky, Christopher Urbanovsky, Michael Epstein, Jay Gebauer, Troy Stoneburner and Cliff Weber.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church or the Texas Lions Camp.

Harlan Nagel

Harlan Nagel, 86, of Cuero passed away Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016. He was born Nov. 29, 1929 in the old Koehler House on the farm he lived and worked on his entire life. His parents, the late Henry A. and Olga Sager Nagel raised Harlan in the only church he knew his whole life.  He was baptized, confirmed, married; and baptized and confirmed his children in the Zion Lutheran Church of Arneckeville.

He married Edieth Zengerle on Dec. 10, 1949. Edieth and Harlan shared 66 years of love. Survivors include daughters, Mary Leida (Steve) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Judy Hohne (Bob) of Houston; sons, Patrick Nagel and Robert Nagel both of Cuero; grandsons, Hans Leida (Sarah) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nathan Nagel (Amy) of Clear Lake, Joshua and Matthew Hohne of Houston; great-grandchildren, Levi, Sam and Miles Leida of Minneapolis, Logan and Olivia Nagel of Clear Lake; sister-in-law Marjorie Schellenbarger of Cuero; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters-in-laws Hilbert (Bernice), Edwin (Pearl White), Leon (Ruth); sister Elenore Nagel; and daughter-in-law Ann Nagel (wife of Robert).

Harlan was a proud farmer and rancher his entire life. In 1982 he was recognized by the County Soil & Water Conservation District for Resource Conservation. In spite of only having an elementary grade formal education, he was a life-long student and served on the Meyersville School Board many years as Treasurer. He also served on the county SWD and ASCS committees, the Zion Cemetery Committee and on the Zion Church Council, and director on the DeWitt County Producers Coop Board.

His children learned many life lessons from him, observing how he lived his life. Love of God, Family, Church and Community were learned by observing rather than lecturing.

Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 29 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero.  Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 1 at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Arneckeville with Pastor Barbara Beale officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery of Arneckeville.

Pallbearers will be Hans Leida, Nathan Nagel, Joshua Hohne, Matthew Hohne, Randy Bullard, Allan Hartman and Gary Henneke.

Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church of Arneckeville, Zion Lutheran Cemetery of Arneckeville, Blue Bonnet Youth Ranch or Donor’s choice.

Richard “Dick” Guzy

Richard “Dick” Guzy, 66, of Coleman, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016 in Brownwood. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yorktown. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Richard “Dick” Guzy was born June 12, 1949 in Yorktown to John Guzy and Cecilia Janyssek Guzy. He grew up in Yorktown and graduated from high school there. On Aug. 12, 2011, he married Nikki Laws Donham in Coleman.  Richard worked as an elevator mechanic for Otis Elevator for 32 years and later worked for Thyssen and Krupp Elevator before retiring. Richard moved to Coleman in 2009. Richard was a member Holy Cross Catholic Church in Yorktown, member of the Elevator Union and a very proud grandpa.

Survivors include his wife, Nikki Guzy of Coleman; one daughter, Beth Sallee and husband, Caleb, of Lubbock; one granddaughter, Harper Sallee of Lubbock; two sisters, Kathy Sauffer and husband, Dennis, of Burnett, Frances Villa of Yorktown; three step-children, Glen Donham and wife, Kristen, of LaMore, California, Michael Donham and wife, Monica, of Santa Anna, Stephen Donham of Brownwood; eight step grandchildren, one niece and three nephews.

He was preceded in by his parents and a brother-in-law, Rudy Villa.

Rosary will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.

Lavern Martha Schueneman

It is with immense sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our precious mom, grandmother, sister, and friend, Lavern Martha Schueneman.

Lavern was born the middle child of three daughters to Charles and Martha Diebel on March 18, 1919. She married Lawrence Schuenemann on Dec. 31, 1936. She passed from this world on Feb. 24, 2016, a mere three weeks before her 97th birthday.

Lavern lived her life surrounded by those she loved, entertaining them often with her quick wit and warm sense of humor. She especially loved teaching German phrases to those that gathered around her, later testing them to see if they remembered her earlier teachings. She loved cooking, gardening, playing dominoes, and spending time with her family and her dog, BeBe.

Lavern is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lawrence Schueneman; her son, Larry Schuenemann; her sister, Audrey Dornburg; and her parents, Charles and Martha Diebel.

Left to cherish the memories of this loving individual is son, Curtis Schuenemann; daughter-in-law, Jo Lois Schuenemann; eleven grandchildren, Ginger (Jim) Stradley, Curtis (Dawn) Schuenemann, Jr., Debbie (Sonny) Smithwick, Lonnie (Wylona) Schuenemann, Trey (Lisa) Schuenemann, Don (Marilyn) Schuenemann, Darryl (Linda) Schuenemann, Laurey (Mario) Garcia, Sandra Carter, Kimberly Temple, and Katrina (J.) Wilson; 21 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Charlene Fromme.

A private graveside memorial ceremony for family members will be held at a future date at St. Andrews Lutheran Cemetery in Weesache.

Memorials may be given in Lavern’s honor to the TriSun River Ridge Care Center for the purchase of patient activity supplies to provide for a more enjoyable stay in the nursing facility. Harold H. Stirl

Harold H. Stirl passed away at home on Feb. 26, 2016 in Austin at the age of 89. He was born on Feb. 24, 1927 to Ernest Albert Stirl and Hedwig (Gaedke) Stirl. He graduated as Salutatorian of his class at Nordheim High School and attended Texas Lutheran College. He married Snooks Messamore, his high school sweetheart, on July 7, 1946. They settled in Nordheim and raised three children.

Harold partnered with his father selling insurance and operating a service station. Later his brother Lawrence joined them. In 1970 Harold went to work for Coastal States as national maintenance manager, where he worked for over 20 years. He retired in 1991 and they moved to Columbus.

Harold was very active in the community. In Nordheim he was the Mayor, the Fire Marshall, Scout Master, President of the PTA, Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, member of the City Council, Treasurer and Council of the Nordheim Lutheran Church, and Sec/Treas. of the Nordheim Shooting Club. In Columbus, he was the Sec/Treas. of the Odd Fellows Cemetery, American Legion Commander, German Society President, Lions Club President, and Trustee of the Methodist Church and a 50+ year member of the Sons of Hermann. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Harold is survived by his children, Cynthia Willoughby of Cypress, Michael Stirl (Nancy) of Daingerfield, and Denise Hickey of Austin; grandchildren, William Willoughby (Kathy) of Petronilla, Thomas Willoughby of Nacogdoches, Jeffrey Stirl of Gatesville,  Jennifer Stirl of Daingerfield, Sara Hickey of Austin, and Kris Hickey of Austin; great-grandchildren, Alala and David Willoughby of Petronilla, and Tristen Jackson of Humble.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother and his sons-in-law Jim Hickey and Frank Willoughby.

Harold was a father, a mentor, an innovator, a Christian, a jokester, a volunteer, a gardener, a selfless man always giving of his time, talent, and endless love and energy. He gave 110% to whatever he did and never slowed down, even up to his last day. Heaven has gained a wonderful new servant.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 3 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm; and on Friday from 8 am to 1 pm at Henneke Funeral Home, Columbus.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 4, 1 pm at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus.

Interment in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus with Military Honors by the American Legion. Pallbearers are Gary Chandler, James Yearwood, Eddie Hernandez, Ernest Baumgart, Tony Pullicino, and Douglas Lilie. Honorary pallbearers are William, Thomas and David Willoughby, Jeffrey Stirl, Kris Hickey, Addam Terrazas, and Tristen Jackson.

Janice Ocean

Janice Terlene (Terri) Morrow Ocean, 77, of Austin, passed away on Feb. 24, 2016. She was born in DeWitt County on Nov. 23, 1938. She graduated from Cuero High School in Cuero and graduated from Jefferson Davis Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Her nursing career took her to Abilene; Anaheim; Garden Grove, California; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Austin. She specialized in pediatric, adolescent psychiatric and home health nursing, ending her 50-year nursing career at Meridell Achievement Center in Liberty Hill.

Terri Ocean enjoyed shopping at resale stores for treasures, collecting buttons, hearts, and other collectables. She loved cooking, decorating, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Chapter R, PEO, in Austin. 

She is survived by her sons Mark Ocean, David Ocean, and Stephen Ocean and daughter Christine Ocean-Rintala and son-in-law, Pekka, all of Austin. She is also survived by her grandson Story Ocean of Leander. Also surviving are her sister, Rosemary Morrow of Austin; brother Bill Morrow and sister-in-law, Kathy of Cuero, Texas; and brothers-in-law Wayne Russell of Cuero; Larry Balch of Arnold Maryland.  Also surviving are nephew Derek Balch, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; and nieces Sarah Turner (Justin and son Ethan) and Hannah Smith (Kolton). She was predeceased by her parents, Terry and Gladys Morrow, and sisters Patsy Russell and Marilyn Balch, and niece Emily Morrow. Special mention to her friends Nancy Townsend, Alan and Kathy Reiman, Andy and Gail Oberta, and cousin, Sandi Burleson.

Services were held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 263 Spur 962 East, Cypress Mill, Texas, at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 27. Graveside services were held at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 27.

Pallbearers were Mark Ocean, David Ocean, Stephen Ocean, Story Ocean, Bill Morrow, Justin Turner and Kolton Smith.

Dennis Pargmann

Dennis W. Pargmann, 68, of Nordheim, passed away March 3, 2016. He was born July 28, 1947, in Cuero to the late Larry Omar and Alvina Deiringer Pargmann. 

Dennis is survived by his wife, Esmeralda Pargmann; daughters, Tammy Ledwik (David), Kathy Pargmann (Cory), Pam Pargmann and Tracy Pargmann; sister, Donna Reynolds (Dennis); brothers, Larry Pargmann (Frances) and Jimmy Pargmann (Pat); grandchildren, Sheldon Lassmann, Shelby Pargmann, Kaitlyn Watson, Kaleigh Jozwiak, Corey Pargmann, Bryleigh Flores and Korbyn Molina; numerous nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 7 at Finch Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 8 at Finch Funeral Chapel with Pastor Sue Irvin officiating. Burial will follow in Nordheim Cemetery.

Jose Bermea

Jose “Coyote” Bermea, age 78, of Smiley, passed away March 2, 2016 in Victoria. He was born on Sept. 18, 1937 in Smiley. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Evaristo and Eustolia (Castro) Bermea; a son, Antonio “Tony” Bermea; numerous brothers and a sister.  Jose is survived by his wife, Irenia “Irene” Bermea of Smiley; two sons: Mario Bermea and wife Adella of Smiley; Paul Bermea and wife Sally of Seguin; seven grandchildren:  Nicole Reid and husband Chris, Joshua Bermea, Ariel Bermea, Madison Bermea, Morgan Bermea, Aciana Bermea and Justin Cardova, Tony Bermea Jr.; four great-grandchildren: Christopher Reid Jr., Justice Cardova, Josia Cardova, and Jaxton Cardova; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 6, from 4-8 p.m. at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon with a Rosary recited at 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 7 at 10 a.m. at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Smiley. Rose Haley

Rose A. Haley, age 89, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016.

She was born Oct. 11, 1926 in Lavaca County to Samuel and Victoria Jahn Sandelowitz.

Survivors are her daughter, Jacque Zehner of Modesto, California; sisters, Helen Grossman of San Antonio and Loraine Anderson of Waco.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Robert R. Haley; son, Randall N. Russell; sister, Margie L’HommeDieu.

Graveside service 11 a.m. Friday, March 4 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Mr. Darrell Powell officiating.

Memorials may be made to ASPCA or Wounded Warriors.

John Bade

Rev. John Randolph Bade, pastor, author, poet, and friend to all, passed away March 2, 2016.

He is survived by his wife Rev. Robin McCullough-Bade, son Michael Bade and his fiancé Alisha Rosa. John fought the good fight against Parkinson’s Disease for over 26 years and provided hope to those who daily face adversity. His gentle strength and beautiful smile brought the best out of those he met. He helped create Movers and Shakers, a local Parkinson’s support group. He embodied his mantra “Peace, Courage, and Strength!” John was born in Cuero, DeWitt County, Texas on Dec.3, 1957, the sixth child of Heinie and Frieda Bade. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Arneckeville and confirmed at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Cuer.

After attending Cuero Public Schools, he attended Texas Lutheran University (Seguin) and Trinity Lutheran Seminary (Columbus, Ohio). John was named Outstanding Alumni of TLU in 2006. He served as pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church (Baton Rouge, Louisiana), Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (Austin), and several interim congregations.  He was chaplain at Texas Lutheran College (Seguin) and served as lay associate at Palm Valley Lutheran Church (Round Rock). He and his wife co-wrote over 300 Bible Studies for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

He was author of multiple magazine articles and several books including “Will I Sing Again?  Listening for the Melody of Grace in the Silence of Illness and Loss.” In addition, he combined his keen mind for theology, love of music, and visual images to create inspiring multimedia presentations, especially for the Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge. He is survived by siblings Lawrence Bade (Sharon), David Bade (Linda), Margaret Drushel (Roger), Lois Tolbert (Butch), Bernice Huie (Bob), as well as sisters-in-law Karen Higgins, Ellen Brabson (John) and Claudia Bade.

John is a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother Norman.

Calling hours will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 4 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Drive, Baton Rouge followed by a reception at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2021 Tara Blvd.  The funeral will be on Tuesday, March 8, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Cuero with burial at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Arneckeville.

Bernice Henze

Bernice Henze, 97, of Yorktown, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday March 3, 2016. She was born Feb. 4, 1919 in Cuero to the late W.P. and Edna Voelkel Schulz. She was baptized into the faith August 10, 1919 and confirmed April 10, 1938 under the guidance of Rev. Schaws at Nordheim Lutheran Church. She enjoyed going to dances with her friends and it was at one of these dances she met her future husband Norris. On Dec. 20, 1938 she and Norris married and she left the amenities in Nordheim and traded them for life in the country. Bernice always said she didn’t know how to boil water when she first married, but you would have never guessed as she was an excellent cook.  She loved to read and play Skip-Bo.  After her Lord and Savior, her family was most important to her and she loved having everyone come to visit on Saturday nights. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Miriam Circle. Until her health wouldn’t allow it, she attended church regularly and was a wonderful Christian example to those around her.  She ended each day in prayer, thanking God first for His blessings and closing with the Lord’s Prayer.

Preceding her in death were her infant brother, parents, brother, Lawrence and husband Norris.

She is survived by her sons, Larry Henze and wife Elaine, Dennis Henze, Glen Henze and wife Judy all of Yorktown; five grandchildren, Sue Boldt, Jill Turner, Penny Hill, Brendan Henze and Stacy Henze, four great grandchildren, Haley Turner, Broole Turner, Natalie Boldt and Zoe Henze.

Visitation was at 5-7 pm Sunday March 6 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 am Monday March 7 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Tim Muehlbrad officiating.  Interment will follow at Nordheim Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Louis Boldt, Brendan Henze, Kevin Hill, Alex Bock, Phillip Bock and Dr. John Frels.  Honorary pallbearers will be Lindy Voelkel, Shane Turner, Will Sauermilch and Dr. Raymond Reese.

Memorial can be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Alexander Lopez

Alexander (Alex) Lopez, 80, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016. He was born June 3, 1935 in Concrete to the late Louis Lopez and Librada DeHoyos Lopez. He married the love of his life, Dora Saenz, Oct. 17, 1959 in Belton.

He is survived by his wife, Dora; daughters Mary Linda Arguellez (Mario), JoAnn Renteria (Michael) and Yolanda Barron (Nabor), all of Cuero; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe Lopez (Dorothy) of Yoakum and Johnny Trevino (Theresa) of Cuero.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers David Lopez, Martin Lopez, Leroy Lopez, Louis Lopez, Jr., Augustine Lopez, Jesse Lopez, Sr.,  and infant Pedro Lopez; sisters, infant Marie Louisa Lopez, Frances Gutierrez, Elvira Vera and Narcissa Alaniz.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home with a Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. Services will be held Friday, March 11 at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father David Berger officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery. 

Pallbearers are Johnny Trevino, Joe Louis Lopez, Mario Arguellez, Jr., Andrew Arguellez, Michael Renteria, Jr.,  Nabor Barron III and Jase Barron. Honorary Pallbearers are grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Belen Salazar Pena entered into rest on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the age of 76.

She was born on March 13, 1939 in Hallettsville to the late Pedro and Inez Aguilar Salazar. 

She is survived by her children Pedro (Janie) Hernandez of Cuero; Pascual (Elvira) Hernandez and David Salazar, both of Brownfield; Santiago (Juana) Pena, Jr. of Lubbock; Estella Esquivel, Irene Flores, and  Guillerma Hernandez, and Angelica (Gelasio Jr.) Garcia, all of Cuero; Rosana (Reynolfo) Gonzales of Runge; and Maria Luisa Perez of Cuero. She is also survived by her sisters Dominga (Uvence L. Jr.) Davila of Victoria; Susie (Faustino) Alvarez of Victoria; and Teresa (Jose) Estrada of Saginaw, Michigan. In addition, she is survived by her 26 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Belen is preceded in death by her daughter, Michaela Hernandez; sisters Christina Gonzales, Bally Martinez, and Maria Andrea Martinez; and her brothers Jose, Jessie, and Martin Salazar; and grandson Jose Luis Sanchez.

Pallbearers are Joshua Hernandez, Ricky Varela, Jamie Mendoza, Juan Rodriguez, Jr., Julian Perez, Jr., and Alphonso Flores.

Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Thursday, March 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral services will be Friday, March 11 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father David Berger officiating. Interment will be at San Miguel Cemetery in Thomaston. “Sunny” Manuel Perez Jr.

“Sunny” Manuel Perez Jr. 50, of Yorktown, died Sunday March 6, 2016. He was born March 10, 1965 in Nixon to Rosa Gonzales and the late Manuel Perez Sr.

He is survived by his mother Rosa Gonzales of Yorktown, sons Manuel Perez III, Adrian Perez, Jose Perez, daughters Monica Perez, Rosie Perez, Elizabeth Perez, 21 grandchildren and sisters Norma Perez Herrera and Lorain Gonzales.

He is preceded in death by father Manuel A. Perez.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 11 at Massey Funeral Home with a rosary starting at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 12 at San Luis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Luis Catholic Cemetery.

Kenneth Cooper

Heaven gained an angel when, on March 17, 2016, Kenneth W. Cooper passed from this life to live with our Lord at the age of 75. He was born on May 27, 1940 to the late Riley G. and Norma Lee Cooper in Pleasanton, Texas. He lived there until he began working for DuPont as an operator and then mechanic, moving his family to Meyersville. He worked for DuPont for 28 ½ years before being medically retired in 1996.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, mechanic, and gardener. Devoted to his wife and girls, he spent countless hours of time with helping on 4-H animals and projects, and he took great pride and happiness in all his grandchildren. Those that knew him readily saw his integrity, honesty, work ethic and willingness to help others.

Kenneth is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Lillian F. Marek Cooper, four daughters, 10 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and another due in May, and one great-grandson. Those that will forever cherish their time with him are Karen Wright and husband, Brett, of Falls City, Debra Rayl and husband, Rock, of St. Hedwig, Brenda Justice and husband, John, of Goliad and Laura Wanjura and husband, Kevin, of Cuero. Grandchildren are Megan Wright Kruger and husband Adam, Cameron Wright, Cooper Rayl, Brooke Rayl, Joshua Justice and wife Hannah, Shaun Justice, Teresa Justice, Paige Wanjura, Taylor Wanjura, and Jeremy Wanjura, great-granddaughter, Makenzie ruger, and soon to join us, Analise Kruger, and great-grandson, Caleb Justice. Additionally, three sisters, Carol McLendon, Patty Hayes and Linda Daniels. 

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, an infant brother Ronald as well as numerous aunts and uncles.

Friends are invited to join the family for visitation at Freund Funeral Home on Sunday, March 20 from 6-8 p.m., with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Services will be held on Monday, March 21 at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Meyersville with Father Charles Otsiwah officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Special thanks goes out to the nurses, staff and residents at LaBahia Nursing Home in Goliad and Hospice of South Texas for their gentle, loving care of our husband and father.

Brandon Hull

Brandon Keith Hull, 30, of Cuero and La Porte passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016. He was born June 12, 1985 in Houston to Jeanette Jardina and the late Brian Keith Hull.  Brandon worked with computer software and enjoyed playing computer games.

Brandon is survived by his mother, Jeanette Jardina of La Porte; grandparents, JC and Mary Ann Hull of Cuero; and brother, Christopher Keith Hull.

He is preceded in death by his father, Brian Keith Hull.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Vivian Thomas

Vivian Thomas (Gardner), 76, of Cuero, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016. She was born on March 2, 1940 to the late Ira Sr. and Leola Gardner of Cuero. Vivian accepted and professed her love of Jesus Christ at an early age and united with Brothers Chapel United Methodist Church and later with the First United Methodist Church in Cuero.

Vivian attended Daule High School and later went on to Victoria College and earned her CNA and Medication certification. She was employed by Cuero Community Hospital and then went on to work for Mrs. J. Carter Thomas as a caregiver and Margaret (Missy) Thomas for many years until her health declined. Vivian married the love of her life, Tommy Thomas, on Dec. 24, 1964. She was a wonderful wife and mother of nine children, five daughters, four sons and the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Ernest Thomas and daughter Cynthia Thompson; sister, Julia Beal; brothers, James Gardner, Ira Gardner Jr.; and son-in-law Edwin Strait.

Vivian leaves to cherish her memory, husband Tommy Thomas of Cuero; daughters, Yvonne Gardner -Strait of Cuero, Gwendolyn Monroe (Randy) of Pflugerville, Tommie Williams (Edwin) of Round Rock and Angela Dowell (James) of Pflugerville; sons, Jerald Thomas of Cuero, Ervin Thomas (Tia) of Katy, Marlin Thomas (Tameka) of Manor; son- in-law, Bobby Thompson of Victoria; sister, Angelene Campbell of Cuero; brother, Robert C. Gardner Sr. of Yoakum; sister-in-law, Lucy Wimbish (David) of Cuero; brother-in law, Javance (Pokey) Thomas of Cuero; grandchildren, Cedric Strait, Patrick Cates, Rachell Cates, Chanel Cates, Paige Monroe, Destiny Williams, Gabrielle Williams, Morgan Thomas, Evin Thomas, Ryan Thomas, Braylon Thomas, Zane Thomas and 12 great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins extended family and friends; special friends, Josephine Thompson and Margaret (Missy) Thomas.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday March 26 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Reverend Lawrence Roy officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Jerry Comstock

Jerry M. Comstock, 83, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016. He was born March 12, 1933 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma to Miles and Virginia Comstock. Jerry married the love of his life, Brenda Morehouse, on Jan. 18, 1982 in Huntington, West Virginia. He was a pipeliner with local Union #798.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda; daughters, Janet Comstock Simoneau of New Braunfels and Angie Morehouse Coste of La Vernia; sons, Jerry Martin Comstock, Jr. of Manhatten Beach, California, James Melton Comstock of Victoria, Jeffrey Clint Comstock of Port Aransas; sister, Virginia Lee Mokry of Austin; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Joshua Eugene Comstock and brother Miles Monte Comstock, Jr.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor George Yarborough officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Comstock, Cody Comstock, Zachary Comstock, Trey Comstock, Rex Coste, Jimmy Joyce, Johnny Post and Gerald Tidwell.

Gloria Franklin

Gloria Mae Holmes Franklin, 71, passed into eternal rest March 23, 2016. She was born to the late Willie Holmes Sr. and the late Lucille Houston in Ganado Aug. 22, 1944.

She is survived by her children Carlton (Chairita) Franklin Sr. and Carolyn Barnett. 

She is also survived by her siblings: Glenn Holmes, Willie Leslie Holmes Jr. and Audrey Taylor; as well as seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her son, Mark Franklin.
