Gerhardt “Sonny” Henry Mueller, 85, passed away on May 7, 2014 at his home after a long and valiant battle with numerous serious health conditions.

He was born in Westhoff on December 31, 1928, to Gerhardt and Laura Nolte Mueller. After losing his father as an infant, Sonny was raised by his grandfather, mother, aunts, and uncles. His mother married Fritz Hilbrich in 1940 and two families were united as one.

Sonny married the love of his life, Irene Ebrom, on August 26, 1950. Sonny spent most of his career as a small business owner in construction and as a cattle rancher at his farm. He enjoyed his family, polka music, raising cattle, and watching a good baseball game.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Irene Mueller; children, Darvin Mueller, Judy Mueller (David Scott), and Larry Mueller (Michelle); step-sister-in-law, Renee Hilbrich; grandchildren, Monique Dennis (Patrick), Brandon Mueller, Gretchen Hernandez (Arthur), Mandy Mueller, Patrick Scott, and Madesyn Mueller; great-grandchildren, Mylnn, Sissy, Andrew, Jonathan, Isabella, William, Case, Ryleigh, Junior, Valerie, and Jacob; special cousin, Faye HoltKamp, who checked on him daily; special family friend, Bruster Washington; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, and friends. He will be sorely missed by all of us.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father; step-brother, Eppie Hilbrich, and step-sister, Alice Lee Parker and her husband, Johnnie.

Honorary pallbearers are Billy Pullin, Bruce Brown, Bruster Washington, and Roy Nolte. Pallbearers include Johnny Parker, Brandon Mueller, Patrick Scott, David Scott, David Baros, and Darvin Mueller.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 9, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will follow at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father David Berger officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yorktown.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Accolade Hospice or St. Michael’s Catholic Church. The family also wants to thank the public for its thoughts and prayers, and special thanks to caregivers, Jan Hans, Jennifer Kaudelka, Loraine Michalek, and the Accolade Hospice staff. Also, a very special thanks to Dr. Dan Dugi and his staff.
