Cherry Grossman, 92, completed her Earthly journey on July 16, 2014.

Born to Thelma McAlister and Ewald Klokau on December 21,1921, in Cuero. Cherry graduated from high school in San Antonio, and went on to be trained as a bookkeeper. She lived in New York for 27 years before returning to Cuero. Her bookkeeping skills and her love of teaching served her well in her many volunteer capacities. Wherever she lived she taught Sunday school classes at all age levels, and served in Church, community and Senior organizations.

While living in New York, Cherry served on the State Committee to establish the Girl Scout “God and Community Award” in that state. Back in Cuero, she served the Cuero chapter of AARP as President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and on the Board of Directors. She was the Executive Director of the CAMAL center for 12 years, after being instrumental in its establishment. She served on the Board of DeWitt County Cares, Inc. for two years, and was a member of the Advisory committee of the Area Agency on Aging in Victoria. Cherry was the first recipient of the Cuero Rotary Club Dewey Award in 1991. Most recently at the Cuero Nursing Center, Cherry served as President then as Vice President of the Resident Council, and danced the Hula on the winning float in the Small Business category of the 2012 TurkeyFest Parade.

Each of Cherry’s husbands, Anthony Piscetta and the Rev. Chester Grossman, predeceased her. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Virginia “Ginny” and Donald Ludwig of Connecticut, and Evelyn “Petie” and Gerald Hebenstreit of Virginia; by stepchildren and their spouses: Wayne and Sandra Grossman of New York, and Ann and Allen Dombroski of New York; by grandchildren and great-grandchildren who live throughout the country; and by a host of loving friends.

Cherry’s life was filled with service to her Lord, and she enjoyed the journey to its fullest.
