Alex Mainka, 82, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014. He was born July 7, 1932 in Yorktown to the late Rosie Guzy and Theodor Mainka. He married Elizabeth Eicher on November 22, 1955 at Queen of Peace Church in Sweethome. Alex was a driller in the oil field for many years and took great pride in his ranching.
He is survived by his daughters, Dorothy Bilbrey (Doyle), Karen Palmer (Rex), and Lois Lemke (Brad); son, Harvey Mainka (Mona); sister, Elizabeth Friedrichs; brother, Paul Mainka; grandchildren, Brandon and Dustin Mainka, Dawni Tollett, Derek Bilbrey, Devon Mullen, Larissa Whitehead, and Morgan and Kyle Lemke; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodor and Rosie Mainka; sisters, Helen Adickes and Agnes Kulik; and brothers, Joe Mainka, Frank Mainka, Benny Mainka, Edward Mainka, Anton Mainka, and Julian Mainka.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 5, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home with a rosary beginning at 6 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014, 10 a.m., at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father David Berger officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Derek Bilbrey, Bob Mullen, Brandon Mainka, Dustin Mainka, and Kyle Lemke.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church or St. Michael’s Catholic School.
