Carrol James Bruns, 90, of Yorktown, Texas died on January 6, 2015. Born and raised in the Buesing (Cottonpatch) community, he attended the Buesing School and was a graduate of Yorktown High School.
After high school, he worked briefly at the Houston & Brown Shipbuilding Company as a welder.
He was a World War II veteran, having served for 3 years in the U. S. Naval Air Force. He was a charter member of VFW Post 8136 in Yorktown.
For several years after the war, he engaged in seismic work in the Gulf of Mexico, Wyoming & Montana. He worked in Venezuela for 3 years and then spent the next 17 years working in Africa (Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Algeria, Chad & Niger).
Returning to Texas, the best thing that ever happened to him in his life occurred — he married Catherine (Budge). They were happily married for 41 years.
He returned to his cattle ranch at the Cottonpatch and engaged in raising cattle for 15 years before permanently retiring in 1998.
He is survived by his wife Catherine, step-daughter Karen Williamson of Victoria, British Columbia, step-son George Budge and wife LaFran of Yorktown, grandsons A. J. Williamson of Victoria, British Columbia, Logan Budge of Yorktown, great granddaughter Sequoia Williamson of Victoria, British Columbia, and nephew Lee Bruns of Austin, Texas.
Visitation will be on Thursday January 8, 2015 from 6-8 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday January 9, 2015 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
