Librado A. Mendez, 79, of Cuero, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015. He was born February 9, 1937 in Cuero to the late Antonio Mendez and Lilly Carrington Mendez. He married Cecelia Sanchez, on March 5, 1958 in Abilene. He devoted 35 years to the Texas Department of Transportation.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cecelia Mendez of Cuero; daughters, Sandra Long of The Colony and Nancy Hodgkinson (Kevin) of Universal City; son, Ronald Mendez of Redway, California; sisters, Molly Macheck of Port Lavaca and Mary Gutierrez of Yoakum; brother, Ben Mendez of Shiner; grandchildren, Kristal Mendez and Robert Mendez, both of Redway, California, Dustin Long of The Colony, and Kevin Hodgkinson, Jacob Hodgkinson, and Elena Hodgkinson, all of Universal City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffery Mendez; and sisters, Adelada Rodriguez, Ester Martinez, and Guadalupe Rocha.
Pallbearers include Jimmy Bulgerin, Lester Weise, Charlie Tressler, Anthony Guzman, Robert Martinez, and Chuck Macheck. Honorary pallbearers include the Knights of Columbus, BS Troop 245, CAMAL House Volunteers, Ismael Villa, Martin Torres, and John Cuellar.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 18, 2015, from 5:00-7:00 pm, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with a rosary beginning at 6:30 pm. Funeral mass will be Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 2:00 pm, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father David Berger officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Cuero.
