
Marvin Newton Taylor passed away on June 7, 2015.
Taylor, the second son of Bonnie Taylor, Sr. and Dorothy Brown Taylor, was born September 2, 1950 in Cuero, TX. Marvin confessed his belief in Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Little Zion Baptist Church in Cuero, TX under the leadership of Rev. A. Bedford. He received his formal education in the public school system of Cuero, TX attending Daule School and graduating from Cuero High School in 1969, where he excelled in football. Marvin went on to further his education attending St. Phillips College in San Antonio, TX and Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, receiving his associates of science in welding. Marvin continued his education but was thirty hours short of receiving his bachelor’s degree in occupational education.
Marvin went on to enlist in the United States Army serving his country for 15 years. During his military career he served in the Vietnam War as an infantryman and staff sergeant. Marvin was a welder, a welding instructor and a welding supervisor. Marvin received an honorable discharge for a job well done. He was a lifetime member of the Disable American Veterans.
Marvin met and united in matrimony to Rachel McVea in 1977 and to this union two daughters, Michelle and Brandi, were born. Marvin was an avid hunter, fisherman as well as a cherished humanitarian. He had a loving soul and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Marvin was always full of laughter and joy. He continued his relationship with Christ and was affiliated with Lakewood Church in Houston, TX under the leadership of Pastor Joel Osteen. Marvin served this church for 10 years.
Marvin was preceded in death by his father, Bonnie Taylor, Sr., brother, Bonnie Taylor, Jr., sisters, Pastor Dora Jones, Doris Louis Taylor (Cookie), Betty Taylor and grandparents, Prince Brown, Beatrice Brown, Mattie Lee Mills and Rev. Eugene and Clara Phillips. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Rachel J. McVea Taylor, Sugar Land, TX, mother, Dorothy Doris Brown Taylor, Cuero, TX, two daughters; Michelle Renee Taylor Colbert (Timothy) and Brandi Rae Taylor, both of San Antonio, TX, four grandsons; Oasis Baldwin, Orion Baldwin, Danny Kerns and Nicholas Sonora, three granddaughters; Oracle Baldwin, Oceana Baldwin and Lilliana Arriaga, one great-granddaughter, Ornae Baldwin, three brothers; Robert Taylor, Sr., San Antonio, TX, Malvin Taylor and Arnold Taylor, Cuero, TX, sister, Mary Taylor, Cuero, TX and a host of other loved ones and friends.
Active pallbearers included the United States Army. Honorary pallbearers included Oasis Baldwin, Orion Baldwin, Danny Kerns, Nicholas Sonora, Timothy Colbert and DeWone T. Williams.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, June 16 at 11:30 a.m. at O.J. Carter Memorial Chapel in San Antonio, TX with Rev. Steven Owens, Sr. officiating. Interment was at 1:45 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Reception followed at Ft. Sam Houston Golf Club.
The family of Mr. Marvin N. Taylor expresses the greatest appreciation for the show of love and sympathy shown by everyone. Thank you for all the cards, flowers, calls, visits, words of comfort and prayers. God bless each of you.
