
Eva Janet “Enette” Weber Smith, 85, of Cuero passed away Monday, June 15, 2015. She was born in Cuero on December 24, 1929 to Dave and Eva Weber. She grew up in the Cuero area and graduated from Cuero High School in 1948. On January 12, 1949, she married Donald R. Smith. They spent time in various places when Don was in the Air Force during the Korean War. She worked at Powis Tarkington, the office of Paul R. Lucas CPA, and retired from the Wells Fargo Bank after 20 years of service. She worked diligently in the community, volunteering her time for many organizations. She was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church and St. Michaels Catholic Daughters. She was a member of St. Michaels Altar Society, served on the restoration committee, the finance board for 30 years, and the St. Michaels School Endowment Fund committee for 30+ years. She became a member of the Pilot Club of Cuero in 1971, served as president, secretary, director, and scholarship coordinator, and faithfully placed the Pilot Club Wreath every Memorial and Veterans Day at the courthouse. She was also a member of the Wildflower Association, DeWitt County Historical Museum, Cuero Chamber of Commerce, Cuero Industrial Foundation, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was the DeWitt County Courthouse Lights treasurer, served on the Cuero DeWitt Community Center board for 26-plus years, received a Service Award in 1982, and became a member of the Honorary Chapter of FFA in 1996. Her biggest accomplishment and contribution to Cuero is the new auditorium for community use.
She is survived by her son, David Smith and his wife, Bea, of Cuero; grandchildren, Jeff Smith and wife, Carrie, Julie Gregg and husband, Hayden, and David Marshall Smith; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Barrett Smith and Teegan and Taylor Gregg.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Donald Smith.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Rosary will be Friday, June 19, 2015 at 10 a.m. with the funeral mass to follow at St. Michaels Catholic Church. Father Kirby Hlavaty will officiate. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Frers, Bill Braden, Glenn Braden, Jeff Smith, Hayden Gregg, and Marshall Smith. Honorary pallbearers include Ed Southern, William Finney, Dutton Lane, Charles Medcalf, Paul Holcomb Jr., Carrie Smith, and Julie Gregg.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Michaels Catholic School.
