
Jerry Stuart Berger, 72, of Waco, formerly of Victoria, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015. He was born March 3, 1943 in Cuero to the late Emanuel and Mamie Schaefer Berger. Jerry retired from Leonard Kovar Ford where he was employed for over 30 years, and where he became known as “Big Red.” He was a devoted husband, father, step-father and grandfather to six grandchildren and friend to many. Jerry and Elsa Atzenhoffer were married October 20, 1963. They were married 37 years when she passed away in July 2001. Jerry married Carrie Dlugosh on January 17, 2004 and they were married 11 years. Jerry enjoyed wood working, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, trips to Colorado, anything NASCAR and spending time with his family and friends. Jerry’s love of the Lord was demonstrated through his membership at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir. He also attended St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Waco.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Dlugosh Reiman Berger; his children and spouses, Gary and Jenifer Berger and Lindsey and Pam Ficklen; step-children and their spouses, John and Lynn Reiman, Eric Reiman and Rhonda and Steve Goff; his sisters and their husbands, Barbara and John Schmidt, Patsy and Kern Harper and Peggy and Steve Lee; grandchildren, Alexis Berger, Cheyenne Berger, Trinity Berger, Amanda Denson,
Justin Ficklen and Jeri Elizabeth Ficklen; step-grandchildren, Morgan and Marra.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsa Atzenhoffer Berger.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 12 at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 13 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Ryan Kowlessar officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Zengerle, Joshua Lee, Heath Hoefling, Steve Goff, Travis Balfanz and JB Schmidt.
Honorary pallbearers will be his beloved grandchildren, Alexis Berger, Amanda Denson, Cheyenne Berger, Justin Ficklen, Jeri Ficklen, and Trinity Berger, very much loved by their PawPaw.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 4102 N. Ben Jordan, Victoria, Texas, 77901.
