Lorene Emma Holman was born April 15, 1921 to Lucy White and Alfred Lane in Sample, TX. She grew up in an age of cotton fields and was a hard worker with a fiery attitude. She married Benner Holman, Jr. on June 3, 1939 and to this union seven children were born: Dorothy, Robert, Lucy, Johnal, Charles, Loleat and Betty. The house was always full of life and she and her husband worked hard to maintain a strict family setting. Lorene was “Mama Rene” to everyone. She loved her neighbors and the neighbor’s kids just like her own.
Lorene’s pride and joy was her Church and Church Work. She took great pride in working for the Lord and she never stopped. She joined the St. Thomas Baptist church and served faithfully for over 75 years until the Lord called her home.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rev. Benner Holman, Jr., children Dorothy Evans, Lucy Holman, and Betty Holman; grandchildren, Reginald Evans and Ethosha Holman; sisters, Lou Ella Lane, Jewel Vincent, and Mary Clay; nephew, Albert Lane; and daughter-in-law Jonquil Holman.
To forever cherish her memory and keep her standards she leaves her children, Robert Holman, Johnal Holman (Viola), Charles Holman (Leona), and Loleat Ross (James); 11 grandchildren, 14 great children and 1 great, great grandchild.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, July 24 from 6 p.m.to 7:30 p.m. at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Cuero. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 25 at L.E. Meador Encampment Grounds at 11 a.m. with Rev. L.T. Jackson, Eulogist. Burial will be at St. Thomas Baptist Church Cemetery.
