Jean Hillis Ridgway Schendel died peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at her home at the Martha Jefferson House in Charlottesville, Va. Her death came after she enjoyed five days celebrating her 100th birthday with her extended family and friends. Born on Sep. 14, 1915 in Elkhorn, Wisc., she was the daughter of Dr. Eldo T. and Leona H. Ridgway. In addition to her parents and siblings Suzanne, Elizabeth, Mary Jane and John, she was preceded in death by her husband Arnold and her son David. Prior to moving to Virginia in 1993. She taught music in the public schools in Runge, New Braunfels and Yorktown.
She is survived by her daughter Suzan (John) Pezzoli, sons John (Sandra) Schendel and Paul (Pam) Schendel of New Braunfels and Conroe, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren (and two more on the way).
In addition to a service of remembrance in Charlottesville on Sept. 27, there will be a graveside service held at a later date in Runge.
