Dovie Hess

Dovie Lee DeDear Hess, 87, of Cuero passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She was born Aug. 23, 1928 in Cuero to the late Fred and Lydia Lee DeDear. Dovie married Vernon W. Hess, Jr. in Cuero, and they were married 57 years until his death in 2004. Dovie retired after 20 years in food service with Cuero ISD. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and was affectionately known as Granny.
 
She is survived by daughter, Dee Hall of Buda; sons, Mike Hess (Debora) of Cuero, Rick Hess (Jackie) of Baytown, Jeff Hess of Buda; brothers, Jerry DeDear of Hardin and Don DeDear of Victoria; special “son” Bubba Williams of Cuero; and her special “daughter” Peggy Boone of Cuero; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren with two great-grandchildren on the way.
 
She is preceded in death by parents; husband; sons, Jerry, Terry and Johnny Hess and grandson, James Alan Hess; four brothers and four sisters.
 
Visitation will be held in Cuero, Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016 at 9 a.m. with Services beginning at 10 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Deacon Leo Sharron officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery.
 
Pallbearers are Jeff Hess, Derek Hess, Johnny Hess, Jr., Kevin Hess, Dale Clarke, and Ray Williams. Honorary Pallbearers include Jerry DeDear, Don DeDear, John Hesse, Ryan Smith and Bubba Williams.
 
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may go to National Kidney Foundation, Hospice of South Texas or Pet Adoptions of Cuero.
