Verda Williams

Verda Clara Van Williams, 82, of Belton, passed away on Jan. 10, 2016. She was born on June 28, 1933 to Roy and Helen Huebner Wagner in Yorktown.
 
Verda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Hickman; brother, Eldred B “Sonny” Wagner; and great-granddaughter, Emily Renee Ward.
 
She is survived by daughters, Roxane McWha of Belton and Cynthia Latimer of Corpus Christi; son, Wayne Dunbar of Corpus Christi; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four nieces and three nephews. 
 
Verda worked hard all her life raising her children and working as an X-Ray technician. She was an X-Ray technician in Corpus Christi and Houston for over 20 years. She loved her family, her Christian faith and west Texas. Verda was a member of the Altar Society Saint Michael the Archangel and the Latin Mass Community. Even though she was a hard worker, Verda loved to relax and have fun. She was an artist, loved to garden, loved her home on the north side of Corpus.
 
She was a free spirit and was not afraid to try new adventures. At one time in her life, she packed her bags and moved to West Texas for a year. Later she came back to Corpus Christi and opened her own business. She worked until she was 71 and then retired.  
 
On Wednesday, Jan. 20 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Yorktown, visitation will be 10 – 11 a.m. with the Rosary and Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Yorktown.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church or Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 1214 Zorn Road, Yorktown, TX, 78164.
