
Belen Salazar Pena entered into rest on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the age of 76.
She was born on March 13, 1939 in Hallettsville to the late Pedro and Inez Aguilar Salazar.
She is survived by her children Pedro (Janie) Hernandez of Cuero; Pascual (Elvira) Hernandez and David Salazar, both of Brownfield; Santiago (Juana) Pena, Jr. of Lubbock; Estella Esquivel, Irene Flores, and Guillerma Hernandez, and Angelica (Gelasio Jr.) Garcia, all of Cuero; Rosana (Reynolfo) Gonzales of Runge; and Maria Luisa Perez of Cuero. She is also survived by her sisters Dominga (Uvence L. Jr.) Davila of Victoria; Susie (Faustino) Alvarez of Victoria; and Teresa (Jose) Estrada of Saginaw, Michigan. In addition, she is survived by her 26 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Belen is preceded in death by her daughter, Michaela Hernandez; sisters Christina Gonzales, Bally Martinez, and Maria Andrea Martinez; and her brothers Jose, Jessie, and Martin Salazar; and grandson Jose Luis Sanchez.
Pallbearers are Joshua Hernandez, Ricky Varela, Jamie Mendoza, Juan Rodriguez, Jr., Julian Perez, Jr., and Alphonso Flores.
Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral services will be Friday, March 11 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father David Berger officiating. Interment will be at San Miguel Cemetery in Thomaston.
