
Thomas Banda, 83, of Cuero passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013.
He was born on Aug. 12, 1930 in DeWitt County to the late Crecencio and Aniceta Banda. He married his beloved wife, Connie Banda, on June 13, 1953 in Yorktown. Thomas served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for TxDOT for 39 years and was the assistant maintenance supervisor for Victoria County and maintenance supervisor for DeWitt County. He was also a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Cuero, the American Legion, and a board member of the Benavidez Memorial Foundation. Thomas was a big sports fan of the Cuero Gobblers, loved to watch the Dallas Cowboys on the weekends, and managed a semi-pro baseball team in the early 1970s. Thomas’ greatest love was his family. He adored his daughters and grandchildren as well as all of his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Connie Banda, daughters; Norma Torok of Pearland, Patricia Bloom of Sealy, and Debra Lutz of League City; sisters, Marcelina Moreno of Texas City and Pauline Compean of Victoria; and three grandchildren, Dustin Keith Torok, Christopher Thomas Kersey, and Hallie Kate Lutz.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Guadalupe Banda, Ventura Banda, Jose Angel Banda, and Juan Banda; and sisters, Carmen Rivera, Martha Olvera, and Margret Rossett.
Pallbearers include William David Torok, Dustin Keith Torok, Christopher Thomas Kersey, Eric Lutz, Freddie Rios, and Rodney Carrera.
Honorary pallbearers include TxDOT retired employees.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be at 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Roger Hawes officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Cuero.
