
D. Wayne Laster, M.D. died on June 15, 2016. He was born on Dec. 10, 1940 in Yorktown. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother. He is survived by three children from a previous marriage and his best friend and wife, Terry Laster. After high school, Dr. Laster received a B.S. degree in Biology from Southwestern University in Georgetown. He graduated with honors from UTMB in Galveston, where he earned his M.D. degree. After a straight medical internship at John Sealy Hospital and a residency in Diagnostic Radiology at UTMB, Dr. Laster served two years in the Public Health Service in Staten Island, New York as Deputy Chief of Radiology.
Following a fellowship in Neuroradiology at the State University of New York he joined the faculty of Radiology at the UTMB in San Antonio as an assistant professor. After two years, he moved to Winston Salem, North Carolina to join the faculty of Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University. Dr. Laster spent 15 years at Bowman Gray School of Medicine as Associate Professor of Radiology.
In 1990, Dr. Laster joined the Radiology Group of Arnold, Medlin, Henry, and Heslep, now known as Radiology & Imaging of South Texas. He retired from the partnership in 1991 but continued to work for the partnership as an independent contractor. Dr. Laster returned to academia in 2003 at UTHSC San Antonio as Associate Professor, Section of Neuroradiology until his retirement in 2013.
Dr. Laster was a member of: American College of Radiology, American Society of Neuroradiology, Founding member of Southeastern Neuro Radiological Society, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Society of Head and Neck Radiology, American Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, and Texas Radiological Society. He published 50 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals and had two textbook chapters that he had written.
Dr. Laster enjoyed fishing, bird hunting, golfing, and having fun with his friends.

Wayne never liked funerals and no funeral is planned, but a memorial and celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
