
Clyde ‘Duffy’ Duffield, 83, of Thomaston passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2016. He was born Nov. 24, 1932, in Houston to the late Clyde Sr. and Johnnie Snell Duffield. Clyde was a United States Navy veteran serving on the Kesarge, Yorktown, Essex, and Boxer Aircraft Carriers. He married the love of his life, Sidney Lou DeDear, on July 16, 1956, in Corpus Christi, and they moved to Thomaston in 1962. Clyde worked at DuPont and retired after 20 years of service. He established Duffy’s Lawn and Garden in Victoria which he owned for 28 years. Clyde enjoyed many things in life, but above all, he loved spending time with his family and watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sidney Lou Duffield, of Thomaston; son, Jeff Duffield and wife, Lisa, of Thomaston; daughter, Jennifer Poncik and husband, Bruce, of Victoria; son-in-law, Brian McGinley of Kingwood; grandchildren, Heather Feliciano and husband, Derek, of Thomaston, Ryan Poncik of Victoria, Eric Poncik and wife, Erin, of Victoria, Brandon Duffield of Thomaston, Daniel McGinley of Kingwood, Seth Poncik and wife, Shelbey, of Thomaston, and Dennis McGinley of Kingwood; and great-grandchildren, Emerson Poncik of Victoria and Skyler Poncik of Thomaston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jayne Duffield McGinley; brother, Thomas Duffield; sister, LaNell McDonald; stepmother, Alma Duffield; and granddaughter, Jessica Kremling.
Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m., at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 10:30 a.m., at Freund Funeral Home with Father Michael Rother officiating. Interment will follow at Thomaston Cemetery.
