On May 12, 2014, our beautiful mother, Florence Dutton Webb, 90, departed this earthly life in Cuero after a short illness. Even though we grieve, our hearts are full of joy knowing she is reunited in Heaven with her loving husband and our Heavenly Father.

Florence Dutton Webb was born August 18, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA, to Beulah Janney Dutton and Thomas D. Dutton. She grew up in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Washington D.C. After graduating from Haverford High School in Philadelphia, PA, she attended Guilford College in Greensboro, NC for two years. While there she met the love of her life, Joseph C. Webb, Jr. They married on February 10, 1945 and were happily married for 62 years.

During Joe’s career as a special agent with the FBI, they lived in Washington D.C., North Platte, NE, San Antonio, and Kerrville. Following his retirement from the FBI they moved to Austin where Joe headed up the University of Texas System police academy. In later years, they moved to Ruidoso, NM and finally to Cuero.

Wherever they lived, they made many wonderful friends. Flo was an avid bridge player and belonged to many clubs. In her words she was an “accomplished party giver” loving to entertain with her husband. Flo belonged to The Religious Society of Friends in PA, First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville, and First United Methodist Church of Cuero. She and Joe loved to travel throughout the country and abroad. She loved her family and friends to the fullest, and lived a long and happy life to the very end. Flo was deeply loved by all who knew her, and will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her children, Ann Gordon and husband, Ken, of Depew, NY, Debby Bowen and husband, J.D., of Cuero, and Thomas Webb and wife, Silvia, of Laredo. She is also survived by grandchildren, Sarah Gordon Haurik and husband, Joe, Rebekah Gordon Faatz, and husband, Jeff, Cynthia Bowen von Gluck, and husband, Alex, Courtney Bowen, Thomas Webb II, Erika Gonzales Zavala and husband Rey, Shelley Bowen Cook and her companion, Blaine Davis, Laura Bowen Lundin and husband, Kyle, and Michael Bowen and wife, Margot; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephew and niece, John and Robin Dutton, and their spouses and families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Thomas D. Dutton, Jr.; and her husband, Joe.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 211 N. Clinton St., Cuero, on May 31 at 1 p.m.

The family would like to thank Yolanda Ordonez for her many years of devoted help and care. In addition, the family is forever grateful to Dr. Dan Dugi, Dr. Dale Denton, Dr. Michael McLeod, Dr. Jennifer Gonzales, Cuero EMTs, Cuero Hospital, ER, and ICU for their excellent care of our mother.

Deloris Jane Caruthers Sievers passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014. She was born November 5, 1931, in Yorktown, Texas, to the late Orin Lee and Antoinette Othelia Natho Caruthers. She attended Yorktown High School and graduated in 1949. She married Weldon Sievers on November 6, 1949, at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown. She was baptized on May 23, 1958, and confirmed on May 25, 1958, at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

While her children grew up, Deloris sewed clothing for people, then started doing upholstery work and refinishing furniture. She volunteered as a Brownie and Cub Scout leader for her children’s packs. She always crocheted; crocheting was the “love of her life.” After her children left home, she started baking and quilting, entering dozens of contests and winning many awards, ribbons and trophies for her food and crafts. Quilting became a passion of hers quickly and she made quilt tops for any and all local fundraisers.

She helped others with quilting and was involved in the Heirloom Quilt Guild in Yorktown. Deloris loved the outdoors and her horse. She belonged to the Yorktown Trail Riders, riding in the Six Flags Trail Ride every year.

Among her many awards, she was the first ever recipient in 1984, of the Yorktown Citizen of the Year, and in 2000, the Masonic Lodge awarded her a Community Builder’s Award for her years of volunteering and helping those in need.

Deloris was very involved with her church, and truly lived her life as a Christian. If there was ever a person in need, she was there to help, whether it was a donated quilt or care packages, whether she had the money or not. She wasn’t concerned with material things; she was more interested in helping others around her in need. Not only did she quilt, she designed some beautiful, one of a kind quilts. Look around and see some of her beautiful work and one-of-a-kind treasures she lovingly made for her friends and family.

Deloris is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Weldon; brother, Delbert Goehring; nephew, Bobby Sievers.
She is survived by her children, Jeanette Ann Laza, Donald Sievers and wife Vera, Wayne Sievers, and Dale Laza; grandchildren, Amber Watkins and husband Wade, Katie Laza and fiancée Patrick Manzi, Donald Sievers, Jr. and wife Katie, and Matthew Sievers; great-grandchildren, Lauren Watkins, Katelyn Sievers, and future great-grandson, Jimmy Ray Sievers; siblings, Maline Sievers and E.V. Caruthers; sisters-in-law, Joyce Baake and Geraldine Goehring.

He was born in Cuero, Texas on November 26, 1935, to Michael Clifton Weber and Faye Fischer Weber. He attended Cuero schools and was a 5 sport letterman for the Cuero Gobblers. In 1958 Mike received his Bachelor of  Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin. Upon graduation he joined his father in Cuero, Texas at Weber Motor Company, the family’s Ford dealership. It was a point of pride for Mike that after more than 77 years, the dealership is still owned and operated by the Weber family.

In 1977 he and his wife, Merilyn, purchased the dealership and embarked on 25 years of leadership, accomplishments and friendships within the industry. Mike served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association and also as President of the Houston District Ford Dealer Advertising Fund, Inc. During his tenure he was the recipient of numerous awards and accolades from Ford Motor Company.

Mike’s leadership extended to his love and commitment to his community. Mike was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Cuero and served his Lord in several capacities; usher, Sunday school teacher, and Chairman of the Capital Campaign for the construction of the new sanctuary. He served as President of the Cuero Chamber of Commerce, President of the Cuero Little League and President of the Cuero Lions Club. In 2004 he received the Cuero High School Distinguished Service Award. In 2008 Mike received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from the Lions Club International Foundation. Lastly, he was named Honorary Chapter Farmer of the Future Farmers of America.

Mike Weber was never at a loss for things to do in his spare time; therefore, retirement spelled opportunity. His lifelong love of sports led him to mount a 3 part series of exhibitions at the Cuero Heritage Museum highlighting the storied history of the Cuero High School & Daule High School football programs. Following in the footsteps of his many family members Mike exhibited a talent and interest in art from an early age. Mike’s preferred medium was oil and his subject matter included scenes from his surroundings in Cuero as well as his beloved Rockport. Mike was known to paint on a variety of materials including golf balls, eggs, oyster shells, palm tree bark and more. When not at his easel Mike could be found fishing, golfing or cheering on his favorite sports teams – his beloved fighting Gobblers, the Longhorns, the Spurs, the Cowboys, and yes, even the Aggies (the alma mater of a few of his grandchildren).

Mike Weber was the consummate son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was admired and respected by all for his kindness, generosity and gentle nature.
