Don Calk

Don Calk, 77, of Victoria went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 29, 2016. He was born Nov. 10, 1939 in Cuero to the late Frank and Florine Stevens Calk. He married Michelle Huck in Westhoff on Aug. 9, 2003.Don had a lifetime career in the oilfied, retiring in 1997 from BP Amacao. 

In life, Don made a mark on the lives of everyone who met him. He was always willing to listen, offer advice or lend a helping hand to those in need. A loving husband, father, caring brother and grandfather, Don always made family first in his life. He also enjoyed working on his ranch with his cows, horses and dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle T. Calk; daughter Lezlie Jackson (Walter) of Victoria; step-daughter, Ronna Gunn of Yorktown; step-son Trenton Taylor of Victoria; brother, Jack Calk (Dannie) of Cuero; sister, Sidney Hoefling (Carlton) of Pt. Lavaca; brother-in-law Thomas Gaffney of Zephyr Hills, Fl; granddaughter, Sarah Duncan (Jim); grandbaby Everly Sofia Duncan all of Tyler and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randall Calk; brothers, Terry Calk and Pancho Calk.

Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 1 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held Monday, Jan. 2 at 2 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Sharon Wiggins officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Trenton Taylor, Brent Hoefling, Heath Hoefling, Kyle Hranicky, Walter Holloway and Steven Schroeder.

Dora Cessor

Dora Serna Cessor, 87, of Cuero passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016. She was born Oct. 5, 1929 in Cuero to the late Joe and Bertha Anzaldua Serna. Dora married Willie Cessor on Dec. 17, 1952 in Cuero. She was a housewife and enjoyed crochet, gardening, puzzles, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Dora Alice Cessor, Delitha Ann Cessor, Delores Dianne Guenther, and Patricia Ann Jackson (Tracey Lapp); sons, Willie Cleveland Cessor ( Diana) and Grover Cleveland Cessor (Georgia) ; sister, Tillie Trevino; brothers, Jimmy Serna and Richard Serna; 26 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Willie Cessor; son-in-law, Bobby Guenther; and brothers, Joe Serna and Marvin Serna.

Visitation was held Monday, Jan. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home with a rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. ervices will be held Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father David Berger officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Stacy Cessor, David James Cessor-Culver, Derek Allison Cessor-Culver, Blake Allen Jackson, Matthew Wayne Jackson, William Randolph Buch, Grover Cleveland Cessor III, and Dustin William Cessor-Culver. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Culver, Tracey Alan Lapp, Sean Webb, Roger Dale Rickman Jr., Bobby Lee Gonzales, Roger Dale Rickman, Noah Bland, and Larry Miller.

Tommie Gerald Lucas, Sr., 69, of Cuero passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016. He was born July 19, 1947 in Cuero to the late Tommie and Mary Alese Knox Lucas. Tommie worked in the oilfield and was owner of Tommie’s Small Engine Repair. He enjoyed going to the beach, gardening, country music and audio books.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Joyce Lucas of Cuero, daughter, Tina Alese Lucas of Austin, Tommie Gerald Lucas, Jr. of Cuero; sisters, Mary Lee Saunders of Cuero; and grandchildren Layla Ann Lucas and Rose Lee Thomas both of Cuero.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Wanda Ruth Cox.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 3 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Father David Berger officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Christopher Saunders, Mike Saunders, Regan Saunders, Mark Thomas, Joe “Bud” Cryer and Jamie Michalek.

David Heaslet

David Heaslet, 64, of Yorktown passed away Wednesday Dec. 28, 2016. He was born June 15, 1952 in Denver, Colorado to the late Vernon Ray and Dorothy Flippen Heaslet. He graduated from Yorktown High School in 1970 and after graduation he attended Welding Trade School. He worked in construction and the oil field. He was a history buff and a highly sought after welder. He was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church of Weesatche.

He is survived by his wife Vance Marie Heaslet, sisters Sandra (Jay) Heil, Darla (Joe) Guinn, step-daughters Nikki King, Avis Bryant, step-sons Pervis King, Ronald Coleman II and Mother-in-law Margree King. Also his constant companon, his dog Precious.

He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved step-father Ervin Schley.

Memorial service will be at a later date.

Lunell Brennan

Lunell Brown Brennan, age 96, passed away on Dec. 18, 2016 at Grace Care Center of Cypress in Cypress, Texas. She was born on Dec. 5, 1920 in Cuero, Texas to Newton Albert and Beatrice Kathleen Brown.

Lunell grew up in Cuero, Texas. She graduated in Cuero, Texas. After high school, she attended business school in San Antonio, Texas. Lunell was a mother and a housewife until she became a successful entrepreneur as the owner of Brennan’s Florist for several years until she sold it upon retirement.

Lunell married Peter Brennan April 4, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas. They were happily married for 45 years.

Lunell is survived by four daughters, Peggy Carman of Cypress, Texas, Linda Brennan of Brenham, Texas, Mary Bullock (Keith) of Tomball, Texas, Judith Brennan of Los Angeles, California and son, Peter Michael Brennan (Kelli) of Brenham, Texas, seven grandchildren, Laura Hodges, Brennan Dougherty, Patrick Bozeman, Brandon Bullock, Eric Bullock, Jennifer Haring, Courtney Blake and Cody Brennan and 12 great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s Church - Pin Oak TX on Hwy 2104, between Paige & Smithville, Pin, Oak, TX 78957 (979-542- 0217 at noon, Jan. 28. Burial will follow the funeral at St Mary’s Cemetery next to the church. A reception will follow in St Mary’s Parish Hall next to the church.

Guadalupe Orosco

Guadalupe DeHoyos Orosco was born Dec. 12, 1937 to Baltazar and Rosa DeHoyos in Yorktown, Texas and entered into rest on Jan. 3, 2017 at the age of 79.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years Leandro N. Orosco, Sr., her daughters Sylvia (Joe) Garcia of Cuero, and Dubelia (Paul) Adames of Victoria; her sons Ray (Tina) Orosco, Leandro (Linda) Orosco, Jr., and Roger (Delia) Orosco, all of Cuero.

Guadalupe is also survived by her brothers Jesus (Eva) DeHoyos of San Antonio, and her sisters Cruz (Joe Roy) Orosco of Elgin, Texas and Dora DeHoyos Jarboe of Houston, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Guadalupe is preceded in death by her son Raymond Orosco, daughter Norma Jean Orosco, grandsons Blake Orosco and Christopher Cody Garcia, sisters Isabel Mejia, Beatrice Ramon, and Petra Martinez.

Serving as pallbearers were Brandon Orosco, Trent Orosco, Justin Adames, Jason Adames, Destyn Morales, and Dominic Flores.

Honorary pallbearers were all of Guadalupe’s great grandchildren.

A visitation for friends and family was held on Thursday, Jan. 5 from 6-8 p.m. with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Cuero, Texas. Funeral services were on Friday, Jan. 6 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father David Berger officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Lloyd Anthony Wesley, 59, of Cuero passed away peacefully on Jan. 3, 2017.

He was born on July 6, 1957 in Cuero, Texas to the late Abraham and Ora B. Wesley.

Lloyd is survived by his sisters Lena B. Wesley and Kathryn (Willie) L. Green, stepson Kevin (Cheryl) Metoyer, stepdaughter Tamara (Jason) Meyers, his brother Earl G. Williams, Sr., and brother in law Robert Holman.

In addition to his parents, Lloyd is preceded in death by his wife Audrey Wesley, and sisters Jonquil Holman and Marilyn Bell.

Serving as pallbearers were Kobe Metoyer, Benner Holman, David Bell, Fennis Green, Deon Green, and Ke’Aundre Green.

Honorary pallbearers were the 1975-1976 Gobbler Football Teams.

A viewing was held on Saturday, Jan. 7 from 10-11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lawrence Roy II as Eulogist and Rev. D.A. Santiago “Jimmy” Rios, Sr., 65, of Yorktown, passed away Friday, January 6, 2017.  He was born August 30, 1951 in Yorktown, to Elisa Cantu Rios and the late Obiligio Rios.
He is survived by his wife, Andrea; sons, Andrew and Jeffrey Rios; daughter, Ariana Rios; grandchildren, Braleigh Gallegos, Elijah Fagan, Desmon Rios, Drew Rios, Avirey Rios, and Azelynn Rios; sisters, Rosie (Roy) Weise, Retha Rios, Eva (Ralph) Barefield, Debra Flores; brothers, Elix Rios, Tony Rios, Eugene Rios, Adam Torres and David Rodriguez.
He was preceded in death by his father; brothers, Genaro Rios Sr. and Obiligio Rios Jr.

Lorenzo Garcia, Sr., 79, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017. He was born Aug. 11, 1937 in Victoria to Antanascio and Amande Garcia. Lorenzo worked as a ranch hand and truck driver and was a musician.

He is survived by his son, Lorenzo Garcia, Jr.; wife, Eulalia DeLaRosa ;niece, Melissa Wood; grandchildren, Manuel Esteban Garcia, Ricki Lynn Wood and Allen Wood.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Delores Garcia; sisters, Amelia Guevara, Delfina Garcia and Linda Garcia; and brother, Frank Garcia.

Visitation and Rosary will be held Friday, Jan. 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home with the rosary to begin at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be Saturday, Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father David Berger officiating.

Wilma J. Billings, 84, of Yorktown passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017. She was born June 22, 1932 in Nordheim, to the late Alfred and Elsie Schriefer Butschek. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She loved bingo and always had snacks for the grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Michael) Franke; son, Wayne (Virginia) Sparck, and step-sons, Doug (JoAnn) Billings and Jim (Judy) Billings; grandchildren, Ashleigh (Travis) Peyton, Meghan (Adam) Davis, Erin (Dustin) Sparck, Courtney (Shane) Kulik, Candace (Jeff) Franke; numerous  grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Walter Butschek; and sisters, Elvera DeMuth and Edna Cleland.

He was born on July 6, 1957 in Cuero, Texas to the late Abraham and Ora B. Wesley.

Lloyd is survived by his sisters Lena B. Wesley and Kathryn (Willie) L. Green, stepson Kevin (Cheryl) Metoyer, stepdaughter Tamara (Jason) Meyers, his brother Earl G. Williams, Sr., and brother in law Robert Holman.

In addition to his parents, Lloyd is preceded in death by his wife Audrey Wesley, and sisters Jonquil Holman and Marilyn Bell.

Serving as pallbearers were Kobe Metoyer, Benner Holman, David Bell, Fennis Green, Deon Green, and Ke’Aundre Green.

Honorary pallbearers were the 1975-1976 Gobbler Football Teams.

A viewing was held on Saturday, Jan. 7 from 10-11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lawrence Roy II as Eulogist and Rev. D.A. Santiago “Jimmy” Rios, Sr., 65, of Yorktown, passed away Friday, January 6, 2017.  He was born August 30, 1951 in Yorktown, to Elisa Cantu Rios and the late Obiligio Rios.
He is survived by his wife, Andrea; sons, Andrew and Jeffrey Rios; daughter, Ariana Rios; grandchildren, Braleigh Gallegos, Elijah Fagan, Desmon Rios, Drew Rios, Avirey Rios, and Azelynn Rios; sisters, Rosie (Roy) Weise, Retha Rios, Eva (Ralph) Barefield, Debra Flores; brothers, Elix Rios, Tony Rios, Eugene Rios, Adam Torres and David Rodriguez.
He was preceded in death by his father; brothers, Genaro Rios Sr. and Obiligio Rios Jr.
Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Massey Funeral Home with Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Luis Catholic Cemetery.

Lorenzo Garcia, Sr.

Lorenzo Garcia, Sr., 79, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017. He was born Aug. 11, 1937 in Victoria to Antanascio and Amande Garcia. Lorenzo worked as a ranch hand and truck driver and was a musician.

He is survived by his son, Lorenzo Garcia, Jr.; wife, Eulalia DeLaRosa ;niece, Melissa Wood; grandchildren, Manuel Esteban Garcia, Ricki Lynn Wood and Allen Wood.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Delores Garcia; sisters, Amelia Guevara, Delfina Garcia and Linda Garcia; and brother, Frank Garcia.

Visitation and Rosary will be held Friday, Jan. 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home with the rosary to begin at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be Saturday, Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father David Berger officiating.

Pallbearers will be Roel Chacon, Mario Briones, Joe Hernandez, Jimmy Salazar, Levi Cherry and Richard Brotze. Honorary pallbearer is Thomas Briones.

Wilma J. Billings, 84, of Yorktown passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017. She was born June 22, 1932 in Nordheim, to the late Alfred and Elsie Schriefer Butschek. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She loved bingo and always had snacks for the grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Michael) Franke; son, Wayne (Virginia) Sparck, and step-sons, Doug (JoAnn) Billings and Jim (Judy) Billings; grandchildren, Ashleigh (Travis) Peyton, Meghan (Adam) Davis, Erin (Dustin) Sparck, Courtney (Shane) Kulik, Candace (Jeff) Franke; numerous  grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Walter Butschek; and sisters, Elvera DeMuth and Edna Cleland.
Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Nordheim Cemetery.
