Charles Chapman

Charles Chapman, 70, of San Antonio went home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2015. 
 
He was born on June 12, 1944 to George and Bessie Chapman in Yoakum, Texas. He professed his hope in Christ at an early age at St. James A.M.E. Church. He later joined Holy Ghost Temple of Christ under the leadership of the late Pastor Vera M. Hill. Charles was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and friend who many knew him by “Charlie.” In 1963, he graduated from Asberry High School in Yoakum, Texas. In that same year he enlisted into the United States Army where he served 22 years and retired as a E7-Sergent First Class. During his active duty he attended Michigan State University and received his Bachelor Degree in Hotel Restaurant Management and Culinary Arts. While being stationed in Fort Devens, Massachusetts he became the culinary head chef in food services at the officer club. As a culinary chef he created many special dishes for others but his favorite was Hawiian Chicken. After retirement he returned to Texas with his family where San Antonio became his home. He continued to work in his profession as Director of Nutritional Care for Charter Real. 
 
He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife Dora of 35 years, four sons Ricky De La Torre (Casi) of Beaumont, Charles Stanley Chapman, Otis Chapman of San Antonio and Thomas Chapman of Victoria. Two daughters Carmen Breaux (Michael) of Killeen and Ginger Chapman of San Antonio. Six sisters Georgia Hammons (August), Catherine Fields, Mary Barfield, Myrtle Denmon of Cuero, Jessie Harper of Yoakum, and Janie Brazil (Wayne) of San Antonio, God brother Rick Jordan, including nine (9) grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Bessie Chapman, two brothers Oscar and Roger Chapman and two sisters Zadie Lee Bacon and Katie Mae Chappel.
 
Service will be Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 10:00 am at Alamo City Church, 6500 IH 35 North, San Antonio, TX 78218.
