Mary Polinard

Mary Elizabeth Cheatham Polinard, age 89 of Cuero, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 in Gatesville. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28 at the First Presbyterian Church in Cuero with visitation following. Officiating will be the Rev. Steve Digby of Memorial Christian Church in Houston and the Rev. Bill Cotman of First Presbyterian Church in Cuero.
 
Mary was the daughter of Thomas C. Cheatham, and Katie Lewis Cheatham. She was born on July 13, 1926 and was raised in Cuero, graduating from Cuero High School. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a B.A. in Bacteriology.
 
In 1947, Mary, being a proud 5th generation member of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, wed the Rev. Herbert L. Polinard. Together, they served congregations in Houston, Waxahachie, Waco, New Orleans, Denton and Galveston. After retiring in 1990, they served five interim ministries in San Antonio, Pettus and Austin. Mary was an active member of the D.A.R. and the Eastern Star. She also enjoyed collecting family history, gardening, sewing, and quilting.
 
Mary is survived by her husband of 68 years, Herbert L. Polinard, their children: Larry Polinard and wife Irene of San Antonio; Tom Polinard of New Orleans, Louisiana; Catherine Rawdon and husband Tommy of Carrollton; Mary Elizabeth Polinard-Tipton and husband Reagan of Gatesville; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Survivors also include her sister, Mrs. Carl Bochow of Tyler and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Cuero.
