
Josie T. Zapata, 89, passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2017. She was born March 19, 1927 in Cuero to the late Miguel and Mary Guillen Trevino. Josie married Ben V. Zapata, Sr. on July 10, 1965 in Gonzales. She was a machine operator for Mount Vernon Mills for 20 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Alice Herrera (Roger) of Yoakum, Rachel Zapata of Cuero; sons, Steve Mejias (Connie)of Cleburne and Ben Zapata, Jr. (Yolanda) of La Grange; sisters, Jeannie Munoz of Yorktown, Martha Garza of Cuero and Maria Trevino of Yorktown; brother, Eloy Trevino of Cuero; 27 grandchildren and 76 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; son, Juan M. Mejias; daughter, Mary Dillingham; sisters, Mamie Anzaldua and Margarita Renteria; brothers, Miguel Trevino, Jr., Pedro Trevino and Richard Trevino.
Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 23 at Freund Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Peter Oscar Amo officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers are J.J. Jones, Randall Mejias, John Mejias, Jr., Devin Zapata, Justin Busby, Brandon Holstien and Jacob Fonseca. Honorary pallbearers are John Mejias, Sr., Donovan Rosales, Brandon Rosales, Steven Mejias, Jr., David Romero, Joe Garza, and Roger Herrera.
