Martin Lopez

Martin Lopez Sr. was born August 18, 1965 in Cuero, TX. He married Cynthia Barerra, they had 2 children, Gloria and Martin Jr. They moved to Nebraska in the early 1990’s. After his divorce he married Lisa Petet, their two children are James and Victoria. In 2011 he married Sandra Upchurch. Martin did construction work for many years. He enjoyed playing guitar hero, taking things apart, fishing, camping and guns. He was known and loved by many. While living in Texas he received the Texas Hero Medal for rescuing a boy from a house fire.
 
Survivors include his wife, Sandra; children, Gloria Lopez and special friend Matthew Hill of Beatrice, Martin Lopez Jr. and wife Helen of Wymore, Ashley Norris and fiancee Jerry Bray of Blue Springs, James Lopez of Beatrice and Victoria Lopez of Beatrice; 9 grandchildren; mother, Elena Lopez of Cuero, TX brothers, LeRoy Lopez and wife Rhonda of Beatrice, Joe Lopez of Cuero, TX, and Sammy Lopez and wife Jennifer of Victoria, TX; sister, Virginia Mejia and husband Joey of Beatrice; nieces and nephews; father, R. Leroy Lopez; and daughter, Gloria Lopes.
 
Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. A visitation will be held 2-4 pm. Monday at Harman-Wright Mortuary.

Patrick Cecil Dolan

Patrick Cecil Dolan, 79, of Cuero passed away November 1, 2014, after a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was born March 18, 1935 in San Patricio to the late Hubert and Myrtle McCowan Dolan. Pat married the love of his life, Darleen Hayes, on May 31, 1957 in Corpus Christi. He was a member of the Golden Crescent Region Antique Auto Club of Victoria since 1978, member of Young Farmers, and a long-time member of the Cuero Church of Christ, where he served as Deacon.
 
Pat enjoyed ranching, welding, NASCAR, restoring old cars, and helping others. He never met a stranger. Pat was a caring husband, warm-hearted father, protective brother, and an adoring grandfather and great-grandfather. Our lives have been blessed with many friends, too many to count and recognize individually. Our beloved will be missed but his character and presence will always be with us.
 
He always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Pat took great pleasure in working with his cows and making his ranch a showplace. Pat was one of 10 awesome brothers and sisters who had a bond beyond measure. This may be the end of their generation, but the love they shared among themselves and their families is eternal.
 
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 year; sons, Bryce Dolan (Barbara) of Cuero and Guy Dolan (Carl Van Dolzer) of Houston; daughter, Theresa Garoni (John V.) of Cuero; grandchildren, Craig Dolan, Brandon Dolan, Derrick Dolan, Dustin Dolan, Brayden Garoni, Candace Dolan, Amanda Walton, and Lexey Walton; great-grandchildren, Kaidance, Hannah, Bailey, Annaleigh, Kyleigh, and Jaxton Dolan.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Roy Patrick Dolan; sisters, Nellie Stuckey, Margarite Carr, Adaline Harris, and Claudila Taylor; and brothers, Hubert, Vernon, George, Lonnie, and Michael Dolan.
 
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home.  Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 6, 10 a.m., at Freund Funeral Home with Evangelist Richard Smith officiating.  Interment will follow. at Hillside Cemetery. There will be a reception at Cuero Church of Christ following Interment.
 
Pallbearers include Craig Dolan, Brandon Dolan, Derrick Dolan, Jim Michaud, Scott Dolan, Hubert Harris, Jimmy Dolan, and Brayden Garoni. Honorary pallbearers are Dan Herman, Richard Dewitt, Dustin Dolan, Loyd Hempel, Larry Cornejo, Larry Hatch, Richard Fogle, and John A. Garoni.
 
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Texas, American Cancer Society (Research for Leukemia), or Cuero Church of Christ.

Mazie Haskin

Mazie Haskin was born February 17, 1933 in Cuero, TX to late Emma and Herbert Mackie. She was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church.
 
She is survived by her sisters Veretta Lindsey and Elizabeth Cooper, daughter in-law, Joyce Pickens, two granddaughters, Archeyne Hill and husband Duane Hill, Chalene Jones and husband George Jones, four great grandchildren, Shanice, Duane Jr., Deja and Alana, and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.
 
Mazie is preceded in death by her sister Deloes Smith and her children Samuel and Joycelyn Pickens.
 
Funeral services will be held at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Cuero, TX at 11 a.m. on November 5, 2014 with Rev. Clayton officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery. Marjorie Mae Wasserman

Marjorie Mae Wasserman, 90, of Arlington formerly of Yoakum passed away Saturday November 1, 2014 in Arlington Texas. She was born on August 10, 1924 in Yoakum, Texas. Marjorie married Albert (Pete) Wasserman on November 16, 1945 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cuero. She was a loving, generous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She loved and was loved by all her family and her little dog Toby.
 
She is survived by her children, Barry Wasserman (Sarah), Carol Merkel, Debra Ozenick (Mark), and Jayne Metzger (Dan); grandchildren, Michael Wasserman, Jennifer Mauro (Anthony), Kari Junco (Neil), John Merkel, Daniel Metzger, Katie Runyan (Scott), Kimberly Drenner (Matt), Bob Metzger, and Emily Wasserman; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Merkel, Logan Junco, and Emerson Runyan; brothers, Don Monk and Bob Manning (Joyce) of Yoakum, Texas and James Manning (Sylvia) of Victoria, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by her adoring husband; brothers, Neiland Monk, Edward Monk, and Wayne Manning; and sister, Joyce Benbow.
 
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 6, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2014 at Hillside Cemetery with Pastor Karl Biermann officiating.

Milam von Roeder

Milam von Roeder, 80, of Yorktown and Goliad, died Monday Oct. 27, 2014 in Goliad He was born Oct. 16, 1934 in Yorktown, Texas to the late J.J. and Elmine Pecanka von Roeder. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He served in the US Army and retired from CPL after 40 years of service, after retirement he enjoyed ranching in DeWitt County. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
 
Milam is survived by his daughter Lisa von Roeder Burris of Victoria, son Guy von Roeder of Yorktown, grandchildren Tres and Bailee Burris of Victoria and brother Bobby (Billie) von Roeder of Yorktown. He is also survived by his longtime and loving companion Adeline Haak of Goliad and daughters Sandy Haak and Lori (Tim) Von Dohlen and grandchildren Morgan and Trey Von Dohlen of Lochart and a host of many friends.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Doris Koopmann von Roeder.
 
Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday Oct. 30, 2014 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:30 am Friday Oct. 31, 2014 at Massey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Westside Cemetery.

Janet Campbell, 59, of Yorktown passed away Friday Oct. 24, 2014. She was born July 8, 1955 in Yorktown to the late Claudie and Dorothy James Campbell Sr. She was a member of the Rising Star Baptist Church and retired from Yorktown ISD.
 
She is survived by her daughter Kim Campbell of Yorktown, son Alex (Mendy) Campbell of Breckenridge, TX; four grandchildren, Destany Mungia of Victoria, TX, Dylan Mungia, Darrien Campbell and DaKielynn Campbell all of Breckenridge, TX; sisters Lucille Campbell, Alice (Henry) Rogers and Gloria Baldwin; brother Claudie Campbell Jr. all who reside in Yorktown. Host of numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her dearly and whom she loved.
 
She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruth Smith, Linda Campbell, Claudette Campbell and Sally Campbell; brother, Louis Campbell.
 
Pallbearers included, Peter Waggoner, Henry Rogers Sr, Daniel Jones, Ralph Vela, Marc Guerrero, Johnny Lott, Tony Longoria III and Nathaniel Williams. Honorary Pallbearers were Anthony Slade, James Campbell, Dylan Mungia, Shamar Nation, Jody Booker, Melvin Booker Jr, Tevin Slade, Kaiyne Salazar and Michal Booker.
 
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014 and funeral was held on Wednesday October 29, 2014 at Massey Funeral Home. Interment followed at Upper Yorktown Cemetery. 
 
The family of Janet Campbell expresses the greatest appreciation for the love, sympathy, cards, flowers, calls, visits, food, words of comfort and prayers.

Gregorio O. Gomez Jr.

Gregorio O. Gomez Jr. passed away on November 3, 2014 at the age of 85. He was born on September 27, 1929 in Yorktown, TX to Gregorio and Juanita “Ochoa” Gomez. 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Eva Nino, Emma Trevino and Juanita Rios; brother, Robert Gomez; and grandson, Gregory Gomez IV; survived by his loving wife, Ofilia Serna Gomez; son, Gregory Gomez III (Elida); daughters, Christine Ruth Castro (Lauro), Orpha Linda Flores (John); grandchildren, April Memory Bloxsom (Chris), Jenifer Lynn Lewis (Jason), Lauro Gomez Castro (Amanda) and Gregorio Gomez Castro; great-grandchildren, Tate Ory Bloxsom and Victoria Ann Castro. 
 
Gregorio proudly served in the US Army stateside from 1950 to 1956 as a medic. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Bible from the University of Corpus Christi, Masters of Divinity, and of Religious Education from Southwestern Theological and Seminary-Fort Worth and his Dr. of Ministry from Luther Rice Seminary. He preached the word of God throughout the region of Trujillo, Peru during the month of October 2014 and served as a guest lecturer of Missions at the Seminario Bautista de Peru. Gregorio also wrote four books entitled: Sermones de Victoria (Junto al Mar), Somos Mas Que Vencedores, No Te Quites Los Zapatos and Dame, Pues, Ahora Esta Montana. 
 
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 7, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Roland Machost

Roland Machost, 82, of Yorktown died Saturday Nov. 8, 2014. He was born April 1, 1932 in Yorktown, TX to the late Theodore and Ella Riedesel Machost. He owned Roland Machost Septic Service in Yorktown. He was a member of Trinity Church in Cuero. 
 
He is survived by his wife Joy Hunter Machost, daughters Jennifer Pesak, Lisa Duderstadt, sons Andy Spell and Darrell Spell and brother Johnny Bednorz. 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Agnes Saunders, Ester Saunders, Leona Saunders and Pauline Waits.
 
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday Nov. 10, 2014 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday Nov. 11, 2014 at Massey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Westside Cemetery.

Ralph Egg

Ralph Egg, 90, went to meet his Lord on October 27, 2014. He was born August 21, 1924 in Meyersville to the late Edwin “Joe” Egg and Cora Wendel Egg. Ralph joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 during World War II. After basic training, he reported to the U.S.S. Helm and narrowly escaped when a Japanese suicide plane hit their ship while at sea knocking off the top smoke stack. He returned home to Meyersville in 1946 and married Helen Mae Hartman on June 30, 1946, 24 days after his discharge from the Navy.
 
He was active in his church and community and was often referred to as the Mayor of Meyersville. He was one of the founders of Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department, President of the Meyersville School Board, and “held court” with his coffee buddies at the Meyersville Store. He served on the Board of Directors for Farmer’s State Bank and Agricultural Soil Conservation Service in Cuero. He operated a dairy farm from 1954 to 1996 and raised Beefmaster cattle with his son. Because of his love for the land and innovative ranching methods, he was awarded the Cuero Agriculture Award in 1995.
 
He loved to sit with friends on his front porch with a view of his cows and his church. St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church was a major part of his life serving as Sunday school teacher, church council President, Elder, and unofficial greeter to everyone visiting the cemetery.
 
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Helen Mae Hartman Egg; daughters, Laurie Pokluda and husband, John, of Cuero and Kathy Dunn and husband, Blake, of Meyersville; son, Joel Egg and wife, Cindy, of Victoria; sisters, Ruth Moore and Joan Gohmert of Meyersville, and Alice Moring of Refugio; brother, Jimmy Egg of Mathis; grandchildren, Lisa and Carlos Salazar of Austin, Scott Pokluda of Meyersville, Amy and Jay Patton of Cedar Hill, Jonathan and Monica Pokluda of Dallas, Summer and John Helms of Chantilly, Virginia, Tara and Ty Vrana of Victoria, and Dana Egg and fiancé, Eric Mann, of Houston; and seven great-grandchildren.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary Ellen Egg.
 
A prayer service and story sharing will was held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at Freund Funeral Home with visitation followed until 8 p.m. Services were held Thursday, October 30, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Meyersville with Pastor John Boor officiating. Interment followed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.
 
Pallbearers were Jonathan Pokluda, Scott Pokluda, Jay Patton, Carlos Salazar, John Helms, and Eric Mann. Honorary pallbearers were Brian Wendel, Don Wendel, and Randy Wendel.
 
Ralph never met a stranger. His passion for life, love for his Lord, and his sense of humor will be greatly missed.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church Sunday School, Hospice of South Texas, or to the charity of one’s choosing.

Laura Teresa Mungia, 40, of Cuero passed away Friday, November 7, 2014. She was born October 3, 1974 in Cuero to Armando Sr. and Rosemary Mungia. Laura enjoyed crafting, dancing and listening to music. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and touched many people and made many friends because of her warm and loving heart. Laura had an amazing personality and an inviting smile that was infectious to everyone around her. Her family was important to her and she will truly be missed by all. Laura's love and passion for happiness will stay with us all, especially with her most adored and cherished new niece, Mia Bella. She spoiled her endlessly and Mia Bella loves her Lala to infinity! You will be missed Laura aka Lala!
 
She is survived by her parents Rosemary of Cuero, TX and Armando Mungia Sr. of Yorktown, TX; sister, Miranda Torres of Cuero, TX (Frankie Jr.) of New Jersey; brother, Armando Mungia Jr. of Cuero, TX and Grandfather Richard Olguin Sr. of Cuero, TX.
 
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Minerva Olguin, Teresa Mungia, and Gilbert Mungia, Sr.
 
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father David Berger officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Helen Kraege

Helen Kraege, 95, of Yorktown passed away Wednesday Nov. 12, 2014. She was born July 13, 1919 in Stewart’s Prairie, Texas to the late Thomas and Pauline Pfeiffer Stamps. She graduated from Waelder High School as valedictorian in 1937 and graduated from University of Business in Austin in 1938. She was active in the community serving as Cub Scout den leader, room mother for both Thomas and Kay’s classes. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She was the bookkeeper for Kraege Drugstore from 1947 until retiring in 2004 at the age of 85.
 
Helen is survived by her son Thomas Kraege of Yorktown, daughter Kay (Joe) Ryan of Smithville, TX, granddaughter Casey (Justin) Winpigler, grandson Sonny (Paula) Ryan, great grandchildren Christina and Tyler,and soon to arrive great granddaughter Keilani Winpigler, also a great great granddaughter Madelynn.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 67 years, Roland Kraege Jr. She is also preceded in death by her brothers Willie, Gus, Irvin and Elmer Stamps.
 
Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday Nov. 13, 2014 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 11 am Friday Nov. 14, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Westside Cemetery.

Dahlia Ofelia Navarro went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 9, 2014. She was born May 18, 1937 to Faustino II and Genoveva Saenz in Yorktown, Texas. 
 
Dahlia is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Esteban C. Navarro of Cuero; daughters, Rita Reis husband Robert; and Mary G Navarro; grandson, Nathan Reis; brothers, Faustino Saenz Jr. wife Delia, Roger Saenz wife Modene, and Armando Saenz wife Linda; sister, Mary Torres husband Robert. 
 
She is preceded by her parents and infant sister Lydia. Dahlia loved her family, had the most contagious smile, and was always willing to put others first. She enjoyed family photo albums, classic movies, word puzzles, and her coffee with hazelnut cream.
 
Visitation for Dahlia was on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 from 6-8 pm with a Rosary at 7 at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home in Dallas. A funeral mass was held on Thursday, November 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church 5231 Meadow Creek Dr., Dallas, TX 75248. Interment occured on Friday, November 13, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero, TX.
 
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dahlia’s honor to the Dravet Syndrome Foundation or to All Saints Catholic School, Dallas, TX.

Douglas Dueser, 62, of Yorktown died Monday Nov. 10, 2014. He was born August 27, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas to Dorothy Jablonski Dueser and the late George H. Dueser. He worked in the oilfield industry. 
 
He is survived by his wife Shirley Dueser, daughter Johanna Warwas and husband Joseph Warwas, sons Karl Dueser and companion Tammara Robertson and George Dueser and wife Sonya Dueser and mother Dorothy Dueser, brother Anthony (Linda) Dueser and sister Georgia (Robert) Matejek. Granddaughters Ellyn Warwas and Aileen Warwas.
 
He is preceded in death by his father George H. Dueser and brother Jerome Dueser.
 
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday Nov. 12, 2014 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday Nov. 13, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Massey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Westside Cemetery.

Maria H. Garza, 73, of Yorktown, passed away on Nov. 10, 2014. She was born May 28, 1941, in Robstown, to the late Guadalupe Herrera and Julia Martinez. Maria was a home-care provider in Robstown for 20 years. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Dolores Tellez. 
 
Maria is survived by her sons, Roel Ortega of Robstown, Juan Herrera of Corpus, Edward Garza of Corpus; sisters, Julia Garza of Yorktown, Enriqueta Gomez of Robstown, Margarita Garcia of Olney, Elojia Sanchez of Pineville, MO, and Anita Wilson of Southaven, MS; brothers, Juan Herrera of Nordheim, Jose Herrera of Belton, and Andy Martinez of Midland; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. 
 
Visitation is 5-8 pm, Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at Finch Funeral Chapel. Funeral service is 10 am, Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at Finch Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Maldonado officiating. Interment will follow at Yorktown Community Cemetery.

Lt. Col. (Ret.) Floyd W. Haun, 93, of Yorktown, passed away on Nov. 13, 2014. He was born Sept. 18, 1921, in Arneckeville, to the late Otto and Elena Thieme Haun. Floyd was retired from the United States Air Force reserves, having flown transport planes over the Himalayas from India into China in WWII. After working for the International Harvester dealership for several years, he became the first teacher for the Yorktown High School auto mechanics vocational program, and retired from teaching after over 20 years, having won state recognition for his skill.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Gladys Ideus Haun. 
 
Floyd is survived by his sons, Will Haun (Carlos) of San Antonio and Keith Haun (Kathy) of Houston; grandchildren, Ryan Haun, Steven Haun (deAnna), Adam Haun (Katie), Maggie Haun, and Abby Haun (Mario Clavijo).
 
Visitation was 5­-7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, at Finch Funeral Chapel. Funeral service is 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Tim Muehlbrad officiating. Interment will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.

George Reagan McPhail, 61, resided in Highlands and passed away there November 13, 2014.  Born in Houston January 9, 1953 to Arthur Lee and Helen McPhail.  Reagan was  raised in La Porte and worked for the City of La Porte for almost 30 yrs, a devoted family  man he loved his Children and was “PAP” to his precious Grandchildren, Active with  La Porte Livestock Show and Youth Rodeo, Reagan loved his fishing and baseball, was the kind of person never to have met a stranger.
 
Reagan will leave his Fiancé Stacy Baker, Children, Jenna Marie McPhail, Clinton Reagan McPhail and his wife Janell and their mother Daryl McPhail, Brother Michael Lee McPhail and wife Cindy, Sister Lisa Ann McPhail and wife Johnnie Hogan, Grandchildren are Nolan Reagan McPhail and Sydney Elaine McPhail, Mother Helen McPhail survives along with nieces Kelly Ard and husband Clint and Krista McPhail.
 
Reagan’s wishes were to have his body donated to further medical research and the Family would like all to join them for a Memorial Service to celebrate Reagan’s life at Bayshore Baptist Church in LaPorte Tuesday, November 18 at 11:00 AM.

Jimmie A. Hotz Sr.

Jimmie A. Hotz, Sr., of the Eagle Lake area passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Lukes Hospital in Houston surrounded by his family.
 
He was born on July 9, 1931 in Arneckeville, Tx. one of 10 children. He joined the Texas National Guard at the age of 17 with his father’s consent. After the National Guard he worked as a welder for Southern Pacific Railroad for 33 yrs and with Daniel Industries in Houston for 27 yrs building pallets.
 
He married the love of his life Helen Marie Ebrom on October 8, 1960 in Cuero, Tx. Out of that marriage came 3 wonderful children, Jimmie A Hotz, Jr. of Houston, Annette Herman Hotz of Mississippi, and Rhonda Hotz of Eagle Lake. He was alson proud of his 2 grandchildren, Hillary Ann Herman of TN, a nursing student and Russell James (Rusty) Herman of Montana who is following in his grandpa’s footsteps in the National Guard.
 
Also surviving is his only sibling Claudia Mae Pyka of East Bernard who just turned 94 and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends in the Eagle Lake and Cuero communities.
 
Services were handled by the Eagle Lake Funeral Home and graveside with military honors being Thomaston, Tx. Pallbearers were Lawrence Hotz, Gary Hotz, Mike Hotz, Jerry Pyka, Jeffrey Ware, James Ware, Russell (Rusty) Herman and Honorary pallbearerr J.W. (Sonny) Pyka, jr., his nephew.
 
He was a quiet simple man with a big heart and loved by so many. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Joel E. “Joey” Lawson, 65, was welcomed into heaven, November 1, 2014.
 
Service: A family gathering and service to honor Joel was held at Biggers Funeral Chapel. A memorial and celebration of Joel's life and career will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church, 200 South Lakeshore Drive, Hudson Oaks, TX 76087. 
 
Born in Stamford, June 26, 1949, Joel graduated from Stamford High School in 1967. He went on to letter in football at Texas Christian University where he was a defensive lineman for the Frogs for the 1967-1969 seasons. He then graduated from Texas Tech University with a BS in Physical Education and an MA in Education from Western New Mexico University.
 
Joel married Linda Stewart on December 26, 1969 and had served in the Texas Army National Guard. He recently retired from Texas Education after 41 years as a teacher, coach, and principal in various Texas cities.
 
Joel was preceded in death by his father, Bill, his mother, Betty, and his grandparents, Effie and Ethridge Lawson of Stamford.
 
Survivors: Mr. Lawson is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda; a son, Ryan and wife Jodi of Frisco; daughter, Charis and husband Richard David of Benbrook; and grandchildren, Cade, Kelan, and Emily Lawson all of Frisco.

Jerry Paul Hudgens

Jerry Paul Hudgens, DRPh, 61, of Victoria passed away Friday, November 14, 2014, at his home in Victoria from natural causes. He was born January 17, 1953 in Elk City, OK to the late Maude Font Hudgens and LaDona Marie Riggs Hudgens. He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1976 and then received his Doctorate of Pharmacy with the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy. He married Valerie Mae Cady on December 11, 1998 in Mt. Pleasant. Jerry was a member of Church of Christ in Seadrift and Elk City, OK. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing with family and friends. He was an advocate of holistic wellness and medicine. Jerry loved his family dearly and will be truly missed.
 
He is survived by his loving wife; step-mother, Pearl Irene Hudgens of Elk City, OK; daughters, Kingslee Marie Mitchell and husband, Brandon, of Victoria and Randi Gayle Aery of Rockport; son, Jeremy Lynn Hudgens of Houston; brothers and sisters, Larry and Lana Hudgens, Allen and Kathy Robinson, Ray and Gail Mahl, and Sherry Mahl Lemond, all of Elk City, OK; brothers and sisters-in-law, Russel and Katrina Cady of Seadrift, Jeannie Cady of Aransas Pass, Shane and Vicki Dworaczyk of Seadrift, Robbie Crawford of Victoria, David and Debbie Holley of CA, and Bryan Roller of Austin; mother-in-law, Lillian Taylor of Victoria; father-in-law, Henry Gene Cady of Seadrift; grandchildren, Wyatt McKane, Madalyn Mae, Karoline Danielle, Randi Lynn, Savannah Paige, Tucker Carlyle, Andrew Bradley, Aaron Phillip, Zoe Reanne, and Sophie Annabelle.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Gary Fount Hudgens.
 
A Celebration of Life will be held on Jerry’s 62nd birthdate, January 17th, 2015, details to follow.
 
Honorary pallbearers are all of Jerry’s aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, Mark Alcorn, Harris Brooks, and all the pharmacy staff members who have worked by his side.

Marion “Smiley” Smith, 35, of Yorktown died Nov. 1, 2014. He was born Dec. 2, 1978 in Springhill, LA to Gary and Bobbie Crosson Smith. He enjoyed all sports but especially basketball, his Air Jordan’s, music and taking selfies. He also loved Cadillac. He took pride in being a roughneck.
 
He is survived by his parents, wife Robin Smith, daughters Kierra Smith, Sky Hunt, sons Marion Smith Jr., Elijah Smith, sister Tara Smith, brothers Bobby Bowers, Gary Smith Jr, Clint Smith. He is also survived by his grandmother Bobbie Crosson and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Marion and Beatrice Jeffers Smith, maternal grandfather James Crosson, uncle Jack Smith and Bob Smith, aunt Margie Adams, niece Koren Bowers and cousin Jamie Saunders.
 
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2014 at Massey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Westside Cemetery.
